Mina Horton Bryan, age 84, died Tuesday, September 20, 2011. Mrs. Bryan was born in DeKalb County, Alabama. She moved to Gadsden, Alabama in 1944 to work at Air Service Depot. She also worked at Bowman Transportation for 12 years. She retired from Osborn Transportation in 1997 after 24 years of service. Mrs. Bryan was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church, Coates Bend since 1949, where she enjoyed worship and service by participating in the choir and gospel singing, trios and quartets. God was gracious and faithful to heal her of cancer three times with this year marking her 30th year as a cancer survivor. She was an active member of the Northeast Etowah County Senior Citizens Associations. She was an avid fan of the Auburn Tigers and Atlanta Braves.
Mrs. Bryan was united in marriage to Charles R. Bryan on August 9, 1946. He preceded her in death on April 10, 1997. She was also preceded in death by her father, William J. Horton and mother, Eva Hopper Horton; sisters, June Moon and Deen Clay; brother, H.L. “Sonny” Horton; brother-in-laws, Roland Bryan, Calvin Kidd and D.R. Moon; sister-in-laws, Esther Kate Bryan and Ann Bryan.
Mrs. Bryan is survived by her son, Charles Ronald “Ronnie” Bryan, Jr., daughter, Lana Bryan Kilpatrick and son-in-law, Kenneth O. Kilpatrick. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Brian (Jennifer) Kilpatrick, Kevin (Kriszti) Kilpatrick, Kimberly Kilpatrick (Scott Fells), Kasey (Tarrah) Kilpatrick and chosen grandchild, Bradley Barnes. Mrs. Bryan’s most precious memories in her last days came from spending time with her great-grandchildren, Noah and Ben Kilpatrick, Gracie and Jake Ede, Sawyer Kilpatrick and Lincoln Kilpatrick. Other survivors include a host of nieces and nephews and her longtime beloved friends Louise Ashley, Jewell Couch, Nancy Frazier, Martha Scott and special friend, Amanda Elrod.
The family extends their appreciation to the staff at Alacare and Angels of Healing for their compassion and services.
Pallbearers will be Glenn Bryan, Stanley Kidd, Kenneth Kilpatrick, Brian Kilpatrick, Kevin Kilpatrick, Kasey Kilpatrick and Bradley Barnes.
Visitation will be from 6 till 8 pm this evening at Collier-Butler Funeral Home. A home going celebration will be held at Collier-Butler Chapel Friday at 2:00 PM with Revs. Jerry Owens, Vince Whittington, Jack Campbell and grandson, Kevin Kilpatrick officiating. Graveside committal services to follow at Crestwood Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services directing.
