Funeral services for Maurice William Campbell, age 93, of Rainbow City will be held Thursday, November 19, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Collier-Butler Chapel. Visitation will be from 12:00-2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Pastor Tommy Marshall will officiate. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation services is directing.
Mr. Campbell was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Edna Campbell; brothers, R.L. and Lofton Campbell; and sisters, Pauline Smith, and Jean Riddle.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn; sons Bill and Tim Campbell; grandchildren, Josh Campbell, Emily Smith, and Colonie Hughes; great-grandchildren, Kaylen, Evie, and Caleb; brother, Durwood Campbell; and sisters, Edna Lancaster and Marion Freeman.
Maurice was a WWII veteran. As a member of the Marine Corps, he served with the 381st Platoon MAG-24 in the Philippines. He was wounded and received the Purple Heart. In later years, after being saved, he served as Chaplain for the Bugler. After the war he married his beautiful wife of 65 years, Kathryn Battles. Maurice was an employee of Goodyear for 22 years. During this time and after he was a pastor for several churches. His longest tenure was for Southside First Baptist Church for twelve years. He loved to visit the sick and afflicted every Saturday. Maurice loved to pump iron with Ingram and was dedicated to his workouts for seventy years. He loved Jesus, family and country. Maurice was a man of faith who never wavered.
