Lisa Richey Hensley went to be with Jesus on January 22, 2015. Visitation and celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Collier-Butler Funeral Home. The Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 25, 2015 also at Collier-Butler Funeral Home. Pastor Joey Jones will officiate.
Lisa was born on July 12, 1961 to John and Josephine Richey. She spent her childhood at the family home on Lookout Mountain, attended Etowah School and lived most of her life in the Gadsden area. As a young mother she spent many years at home before attending Gadsden State Nursing School where she graduated as a RN in 1996. Lisa worked in the nursing field for many years in the Gadsden area prior to moving to Birmingham in 2007 to work for Brookwood Hospital and later as Clinic Manager of Senior Care in Homewood. In 2008, Lisa found she had a talent for painting as well as leading classes as she taught others to paint. She took a sabbatical from nursing and concentrated on painting and drawing in various mediums for the next several years, until her health began to deteriorate.
Throughout her life Lisa was known for her genuine smile, warm outgoing personality and love of life. She loved her children and grandchildren dearly and wanted only the best for them. She was a strong advocate for proper care of all animals and loved her longtime companion, Lacey.
Lisa was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Charles (Tony) Richey; and nephews, Jeff Howell, and Brandon Richey.
She is survived by her husband, Ron Hensley, Sr.; children Corey Ewing (Yetta) of Ft. Payne, and Candace Harwood (Greg) of Southside; step-sons, Ron Hensley, Jr. (Dr. Kelley) of Rogers, AR and Randy Hensley (Shannon) of Ft. Smith, AR; grandchildren, Noah and Chloe Harwood, Max and Laney Ewing; step-grandchildren, Carter, Grayden and Ellaysn Hensley and Blake Hensley; siblings, JoAnn Daniel (Jimmy) of Clayton, John Richey (Diane) of Attalla, Glenda Howell (Bobby) of Gadsden ,Judy Rogers (Johnny) of Attalla, Jeanne Richey of Gadsden, David Richey (Judy) of Hoover, Michael Richey of Panama City, FL, Mark Richey of Gadsden, Cheryl Harris (Chris) of Lawrenceville, GA, and Tim Richey of Gadsden; sister-in-law, Mrs. Charles Richey (Paula) of Gadsden; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins; and many, many lifelong friends and acquaintances from across Alabama and beyond, such as Lisa Leslie from California.
