Ashville, AL – Joan Marie Fowler Lancaster, age 84 of Ashville, AL passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2021. The funeral service will be 12:30 pm, Wednesday, June 2, at Collier-Butler Chapel in Gadsden. The Rev. L. Dale Butler will officiate. A private burial for the immediate family will follow at Noble Hill Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 11:30 to 12:30pm prior to the service.
Mrs. Lancaster worked at Ashville Nursing Home in the 1980’s and her expression of compassion toward the helpless inspired her daughter to become a nurse. In the early 1990’s she worked as a food service worker for Holy Name of Jesus Hospital. In 1994, she took on her favorite job of grandmother. She was a very loving mother and grandmother, always putting her children and grandchildren first. Family members are left with endless memories of her love and sense of humor. The family takes great comfort in the fact that Mrs. Lancaster was a Christian with a love for God and now lives in heaven in peace with restored health, a new mind and a new body.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Bobby Fowler and Ray Lancaster; mother, Vivian Anderson Geer; father Carton P. Geer; sisters, Betty Wicks, Sue Evans, Lou Rector, and Doris Moore.
Mrs. Lancaster is survived by her son, Terry (Dana) Fowler, Ashville, AL; daughter Bridget (Michael) Rogers, Gallant, AL; grandchildren, Alex Rogers, Erica Rogers, and Nathan Fowler; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Honorary pallbearers are caregiver Frances Pendergrass who made it possible for home care as long as possible, Jim Lombardo and Dr. Ryan of Northeast Orthopedics, Encompass Hospice (Suzanne, Tonya, and Brandon), and staff members from Altoona Health and Rehab.
The family extends a special thank you to, Gadsden Regional ER (special thanks to Brayden Teague, Tyler Rose, Julie Hutchins, Wyletha Ash), and Gadsden Regional 6th floor staff.
