Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at Collier-Butler Chapel for Jerome Wilson, 89, Southside, who went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at Riverview Regional Medical Center. The Reverend James O. Wallace will officiate along with Reverend Albert Morgan and Reverend Billy Ramsey. Burial will be at Williams-Southside Memorial Park. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services directing.
Jerome Wilson was born December 27, 1922. He was a kind and giving man and was always willing to lend you a helping hand. He had a passion for talking to people and this boosted his career as an avid salesman.
Mr. Wilson served for 3 years in the U.S. Army. Much of this time was served overseas. He continued to support his country by being a member of the American Legion.
He loved to share the Bible with neighbors and friends. He was a longtime member and deacon at Bethel United Baptist Church. He served as Sunday School teacher for many years.
Mr. Wilson is survived by his wife of 70 years, Ivalee Wilson; son Jimmy (Pamela) Wilson of Southside; grandson Allan (Sandi) Wilson of Trussville; great granddaughter Ramsey Faye Wilson; sisters Frankie McKelvey of Dawson, Margaret Sexton of Hokes Bluff and Sarah Jane Cagle of Lebanon, TN.
He was preceded in death by his parents Virgil and Ruth Wilson and his great grandson Connor Wayne Wilson.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Bethel United Baptist Church and Higher Ground Baptist Church for all your support and prayers; also, a special thank you to Hershel and Jane Clayton and James and Sarah Wallace for all your help, visits and prayers during this difficult time. Thank you to Dr. Ayers, Dr. Sinha and the nurses and staff in CCU at Riverview Regional Medical Center and the nurses and staff at Gadsden Health Care.
Pallbearers will be Bill Davis, Lacy Sexton, Hershel Clayton, Charles Morgan, Charles Hodge, David Milam, Delane Pigg and Ray Dunn Varnon.
Honorary Pallbearer is Mr. J.T. Wallace. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be given to the American Heart Association.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 2, 2012 at the funeral home.
