Eunice M. Blevins

Eunice M. Blevins, age 92 of Gadsden, passed into heaven Thursday, April 24, 2015 to be welcomed by family members and her savior with her family at her bedside. A memorial service will be held at 3:30 PM, Friday, May 1, 2015 at Collier- Butler Funeral Home. Reverend Tony Smith and Reverend Danny Kidd will officiate. The family will accept friends at 1:30 PM prior to the service.

Eunice was born to Virgile and Nancy Slaton on November 9, 1922 in DeKalb County. She moved to Gadsden in 1947 with her family and went to work at WT Grant then Centre Manufacturing Company and retired from Sew Sew Styles of Centre, AL. After retiring Eunice worked for Fambrough Drapery and Design and later did alterations for The Sewing Basket. She was a long time member of Cranfords Chapel Church of God, renamed North Gadsden Church of God.

Eunice was preceded in death by her parents, Virgile and Nancy Slaton; husband, Check Blevins; son, Garry Blevins; daughter, Glenice Laney; sister, Pernice McCurdy, Loraine Hunter, Deaner Daniels; brother, Olin Slaton; son-in-law, Calvin Sims; grandsons, Mike “Bud” Sims, Johnny Laney; and granddaughter, Charlene Sims.

Mrs. Blevins is survived by her daughter, Murlene Sims; grandchildren, Maxine (Jeff) Jones, Wayne (Rosie) Laney, Janice (Greg) May, Keath (Lynn) Laney, Shane Steapleton; great grandchildren, David and Daniel Sims, Amanda Jones, Drew, Craig, Jason, and Michelle Laney, Mallory Cox, Kristi Keller; sister-in-law, Ruby (Leroy) Scoggins; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to North Gadsden Church of God (704 Hooks Lake Rd., Gadsden, AL 35901).
