I was so VERY SORRY to learn of Mr. Akins' death. He worked for ADRS when I was employed at Lakeshore in Birmingham years ago. He was always the consummate professional who STRIVED HARD to improve the lives of Alabamians with disabilities. May your memories bring you comfort in the days ahead.

Dean Akin was a great person , coach and math teacher . I considered him a friend as well as a coach who helped me understand everytime you get knocked down , you must get up . Prayers to the entire family .

I am so sorry too hear of Dean's passing.. Dean was a friend and a Dadeville High School mate of mine.. We played on the 51/52 basketball teams.. Dean was an athlete and could play any sport.. Dean's dad, Horace and my dad played basketball on a team that had only 6 players at a little country school that had a dirt court.. Everyone in school loved Dean and he was our hero... I know God has a special place for him on his team..

The impact of the life and legacy of Dean Akin is so evident in the lives of his family and in the hundreds who he personally touched and poured himself into.  But, only eternity will reveal the true impact of his life on so, so many.  Wanda, i'm so sorry for your deep loss.  You, Craig and Deana, and your precious family are in my heart and prayers.

There are a few people who change your life forever.  Dean was one of those people.  He really turned me on to math which has lead to a great life.  Thanks coach, I will never forget you.

It was truly an honor knowing and loving Mr. Dean.  He blessed me and my family beyond measure. He not only loved his family but he loved his family's friends and their children.  The Gross family was fortunate to be recipients of that love.  I will have many fond memories of Mr. Dean at WCS baseball games.  Having been an umpire himself...he certainly knew the difference between a ball and a strike and would tickle me when he disagreed with a call...especially when John was pitching and Jacob catching.  What a wonderful Godly man he was and has left a precious legacy in his family.
