Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 15, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Collier-Butler Funeral Home for Dan Hemrick, 71, of Gadsden who passed away Friday, September 9, 2022. Charles Smith will officiate. Burial to follow service at Crestwood Cemetery.
Dan was a lifelong resident of Etowah county. He served 2 years as a fire controlman in the Navy followed by 4 years in the reserves. He then earned an electrical degree and joined Goodyear where he worked for 38 years. He worked in the tread room and as an EMT until his retirement in 2010. He enjoyed flying his airplane, the beach, seafood, Alabama football, Braves baseball, and, most of all, spending time with his grandchildren. He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, uncle, and grandfather.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Joe and Maxine Hemrick.
He is survived by his wife Lucy. They were married on August 23, 1975 and just celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary. He is also survived by his children Matt (Rebecca) Hemrick and Jennifer (Dustin) Tanner; grandchildren Saylor, Carlisle, Parks, Henry, and Hampton; brother Mark (Tammy) Hemrick; nieces Julie Burnett, Miranda Jones, Stephanie Boatwright; great nieces and nephews; aunts Ranelle Gray and Margene Black.
Dan was loved by many and will be missed dearly.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of Riverview Emergency Department.
Pallbearers will be Mark Hemrick, Matt Hemrick, Dustin Tanner, Charles Hodge, Rocky Meeks, and Elmo Keener.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday from 1:00-2:00 pm with service to follow at Collier-Butler Funeral Home.
