Charlotte was born in Lineville, AL and moved to Gadsden as a young child. She attended Gadsden City Schools and graduated from Emma Sansom High School in 1954. After high school, Charlotte married her long-time sweetheart, William (Bill) Davis. She graduated from Jacksonville State University in 1974 with a degree in Secondary Education and received a Master’s Degree in Library Science from the University of Alabama in 1976. Charlotte taught at Sand Rock School for 22 years before retiring in 1996.
Charlotte was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Gadsden for most of her life. She was active as a leader both locally and district-wide in the Church of the Nazarene in north Alabama. She served as a volunteer missionary on three different occasions and after retirement, Bill and Charlotte traveled to many foreign countries, with Africa being a favorite. Charlotte served as a Librarian in South Africa and Swaziland on several occasions from 1996-1998.
Charlotte moved to Murfreesboro, Tennessee in 2011, where she resided until her home going. She became a member of Real Life Community Church of the Nazarene and was a faithful and dedicated member. She loved God, her church, friends and family dearly. Her hobbies included traveling, reading, shopping, home decorating, and calligraphy.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, William (Bill) Davis; her parents, James and Ila Sparks; father-in-law, Jeff Davis, mother-in-law, Inez Davis; sister-in-law, Johnnie Ray Davis; brother-in-law, Bobby S. Davis. Charlotte is survived by her four sons: Phillip (Jerri), Tim (Kathy), Mark (Irvina), and Stephen (Mary), two sisters: Joyce Scales and Norma Jean (Larry) Lankford, 19 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and a special daughter, Paula Mate, from Mozambique, Africa.
A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, May 30 at 2:00p.m. at Collier-Butler Funeral Home in Gadsden. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11:30 am until the hour of service at the funeral home. Memorial donations in memory of Charlotte may be made to Alabama North NMI, PO Box 681, Lexington, AL 35648.
