She was born March 15, 1927 in Guntersville, Alabama to Thomas Clyde Cornelius and Cora Lee Cornelius. She married Bob Roberts in 1945 and went on to enjoy 75 years of marriage. During that time, they built one of the first houses in the Clubview neighborhood of Gadsden.
Kitty was active in her community. She and Bob were charter members in the founding of Meadowbrook Baptist Church where she was church secretary for many years. She was past president of the Womens Missionary Union and Director of the Baptist Girls Auxiliary in Gadsden. She called the first meeting of the Gadsden Needlepoint Guild in her home and was past president.
She and Bob were also instrumental in bringing Eura Brown Elementary School into the area. And one of her greatest joys was owning her own business, Handmaids Needleworks and Gifts on Rainbow Drive.
They lovingly raised four children, Don Roberts (deceased), Cathy Roberts Swafford (Ed, deceased), Robin Roberts (Debbie) and Leigh Anne Roberts Horton (Bob).
She was our father's sweetheart. She could tap dance and jitterbug and would lose her breath when she laughed hard. She was tender hearted with a compassionate heart for others, never wanting to put the spotlight on herself. She always had cookies in the cookie jar for the young ones and for us older ones too. She made the best pot roast in the county. She loved football, knew the plays and would watch with such intensity. She was not afraid of hard work and was quite at home on a tractor. She had a standing hair appointment every Friday morning and always looked her best. She had a limitless supply of love for her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren.
She was a praying woman with a quiet strength. She loved our father and said her heart still skipped a beat after 75 years of marriage. When we were upset or troubled, she would make it all better, always. She was the common denominator, the one who held us all together.
She was well loved and knew how to love well.
She is survived by her children, as well as grandchildren Steve Roberts (Jill), Chris Cleland (Evette), Catherine Cleland, Georgianne Donalson (Kevin), Jana Carpenter (Josh), Mead Roberts (Mandi), Ryan Roberts (Ashlyn), Kyle Roberts, Sam Horton, Will Horton, Annie Horton, and great grandchildren Ben Roberts, David Roberts, Aaron Roberts, Casey Carden (Drew), Cate Carpenter, Cale Carpenter, Bailee Martin, Jackson Roberts, Carter Roberts, Owen Roberts, Tillman Roberts, Madison Roberts, Maryn Roberts and great, great grandchildren Willow Carden and Elliot Carden.
