Mrs. Beckert was born in Chattanooga, TN, but was raised in Attalla, AL. She attended Judson College, married Jackson Smith, Sr. and raised her family in Birmingham, AL. She resided in Southside, AL and Gadsden, AL for the past 40 years. Mrs. Beckert worked as a medical secretary, delivered MANNA for over 10 years, was a member of Antiquarian Society, and the local Garden Club. Mrs. Beckert loved fishing, boating, camping and loved to travel visiting such places as Europe, China, and Spain. She loved her church, 1st Methodist Church of Gadsden and her community. She served as member on the Church Board. Mrs. Beckert was preceded in death by her parents, George Douglas Hinton and Kathleen Gililand Hinton; Sister, Carolyn Hinton Watson; Spouses Roland Jackson Smith and Dr. Charles F. Beckert.
Mrs. Beckert is survived by her sons: Jackson (Jennifer) Smith, Hobart Wis., and George Smith, Live Oak Island, FL.; Grandchildren: Natalie Smith, Gadsden, AL., Avery Smith, Auburn, AL., and John W, Pooser, Jacksonville, FL.; Sister: Peggy (Robert) Wharton, Atlanta, GA., Brother-in-law: John D. Watson, Rainbow City, AL., and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be John D. Watson III, Jim Watson, David Wharton, Austin Hughston, Ron Hughston, and Watson Hughston.
