Martin was born on January 11, 1929 in Jamestown, MO the son of Oscar and Francis (Jahn) Haldiman who preceded him in death. He was married to Shirley Mae Clark on January 3, 1956 who preceded him in death on August 10, 2020. Martin is survived by his two sons, Randy Haldiman of Clarksville, TN and Gary Haldiman (Maribel) of Oak Hills, CA and numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.
After graduating from high school, he joined the US Navy. Martin served with the Navy for 21 years, specializing in aviation maintenance. He retired as a Lieutenant in October of 1970. Civilian life offered new challenges as he began a second career with the US Elevator Company, first as a supervisor in door assembly, then as a planner in Production Control.
In retirement, Martin enjoyed attending Spring Training as well as seasonal games of the San Diego Padres baseball team and cheering on the Sand Diego Chargers football team. He volunteered with the Sand Diego Air and Space Museum, where he helped reconstruct and refurbish vintage aircraft as well as making child-size replicas of planes to be used at the Aviation Museum in Balboa Park, San Diego, CA. He and his wife, Shirley were staunch supporters of the Tailhook Association and attended annual conferences well into his retirement years.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 11:00 am at California City Cemetery with full military honors.
