He was born on February 14, 1940 to the late Doraldine Patten in Iowa City, Iowa.
He was united in marriage to Margo A. Torn in Iowa City, Iowa on April 6, 1976 and she survives.
He was a carpenter and owned several construction businesses in Iowa and Missouri throughout his lifetime.
Larry made friends wherever he went. Family was most important to him, especially his grandchildren: Emily, Aaliyah, Carter, Greta, Darcy and Edwin. Being a big kid himself, Grandpa (Papa) was his happiest being with the grandkids. He could often be seen out with one or more enjoying a meal, playing at the park or on a road trip.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years; sons, Tom (Kimmer), Patrick, Will (Shannon) and Ira (Heather); his grandkids; sisters, Connie, Kerri and Joni; aunts and uncles who were more like siblings, Annabelle, Donna, Ed, Nancy, Lila and Jim.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Doraldine Edstrom and grandparents, John and Della Patten.
Cremation has been entrusted to Debo Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
