Gene Ernest West

Gene was born on October 28, 1930 in Fulton, MO the son of Claude and Ruby (Sheets) West who preceded him in death. He was a graduate of Fulton High School in 1949. On July 2, 1950, he was united in marriage to Helen Hampton at the First Christian Church in Fulton, MO. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving in Germany for the Company B 175th Battalion. In 1994, Gene retired from Ovid Bell Press- Bindery Dept. After retirement, Gene and Helen traveled extensively and enjoyed, playing cards and games with the family. He was a faithful member of the First Christian Church, VFW Post 2657, Kingdom of Callaway Historical Society and Fulton Breakfast Optimist Club. Gene’s most important role was husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Survivors include: his wife of 71 years, Helen West of the home; two daughters, Marcia Jacobi (David) of St. Louis, MO and Nancy White (Mark) of Lee’s Summit, MO; one brother, Donald West (Virginia) of North Carolina; six grandchildren, David Jacobi (Mary), Aimee Jacobi, Andrew White (Sarah), Megan Seaney (Kyle), David White and Ania Zarazee (Zack); 13 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was also preceded in death by his infant twin brother, Dean West; two sisters, Jewel Kaufman and Mary Ann West.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 from 10:00 am – 11:00 am at First Christian Church, Fulton, MO. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 am at the church with Rev. Will Ryan officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.
