Robert Marvin Sigler

Dr. Robert M. (Bob) Sigler January 28, 1932 - January 27, 2011 Bob passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 27th, one day before his 79th birthday. He was surrounded by his family who loved and adored him. Bob was the son of Claudie Mae and William Virgil Sigler, and was the youngest of eight children. He was born in Cuba, Tennessee, a small town outside of Memphis. Bob worked on the family farm with his two older brothers until, with support from his family, he entered the University of Tennessee. He continued at UT through Medical School and received his M.D. in 1956. After completing his medical internship, Bob spent two years in the U.S. Public Health Service in Jacksonville, Florida, where he met his future wife, Jean. After their marriage in 1959, they moved to a rural town in Kentucky where Bob practiced family medicine for two years. In 1962, he accepted a four year fellowship in General Surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Bob was awarded the honor of Chief Resident in the final year of his fellowship. In 1966, he joined fellow Mayo alumnus, Dr. Stanley Roberts, in private practice in Fullerton, California. They eventually added five more surgeons to their group. Bob served as Chief of Surgery at St. Jude Hospital and Chief of Staff at Placentia Linda Hospital. In total, he practiced medicine for thirty years until he retired in 1994. Bob was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of Orange County Surgical Society and the Orange County Seniors Golf Association. He was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Fullerton for forty-five years. Bob is survived by his wife Jean (Jeannie), daughters Kathleen Fucci (husband John) and Trish Berchtold (husband Michael), sons Rob and Brian Sigler, grandchildren Kristina, Amy, and John Fucci, and Greg, Katie and Amy Berchtold, and brothers William Virgil (Sonny) and David Herbert (Buck) Sigler. Bob was an avid sports fan. His true passion was golf. Bobs fondest memories were of his family vacations at the Mauna Kea Resort in Hawaii. More than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends who will miss him dearly. A memorial service will be held on February 5th at 1:00 at St. Margarets Episcopal Church in San Juan Capistrano and a reception afterwards at Big Canyon C.C. in Newport Beach. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Fullerton, or St. Jude Memorial Foundation, Fullerton.
