Patrick Francis O'Donnell passed away at his Fullerton home on January 25, 2022. He was 97 years old and is survived by his wife of 68 years, Patricia O'Donnell, son and daughter-in-law Tim, and Valli O'Donnell, daughter Maureen Schuller, three granddaughters Meghan Schuller, Molly Schuller, Madeline Schuller, and three greatgrandchildren, Ethan, Carter, and Millie.
Patrick's life was defined by a love of faith, love of people, and love of sports. Patrick was born in Cuddy (near Pittsburgh), Pennsylvania. Growing up, he thoroughly enjoyed sports; his affinity for athletics and sports led him to his teaching and coaching career. Patrick was proud to have served his country in the US Navy during World War II, and thereafter moved to Los Angeles. While attending Los Angeles City College he met the love of his life at the Catholic Newman Club; in 1953, he married Patricia Ebright. Patrick earned his bachelor's degree at California State University Los Angeles, and in later years earned his master's degree. Patrick Taught his first two years at a middle school, and in 1956 joined the staff at La Habra High School, beginning a 31-year teaching, coaching, and Athletic Director career for La Habra High School. While at La Habra, he coached football and baseball; in his later years, he coached highly successful softball teams, including the 1981 SS CIF Champions. When Patrick retired in 1988, he left a legacy relative to the many students' lives he so positively impacted. In retirement, Patrick gave time to devoted charities, enjoyed traveling with his wife and friends, and enjoyed the beloved sport of golf. He was the 1978 Southern California Amateur Golf Champion. Although Patrick will be missed, he will always be remembered for his dedicated life of love and honor.
A Funeral Mass will be held in celebration at 10:30 a.m. March 11, 2022, at St. Philips Benizi Church, 235 S. Pine Dr., Fullerton, CA 92833. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Vincent De Paul Society.
