Michael Charles Rowland, 63, of Fullerton, passed away on February 21, 2019 due to complications related to liver disease. He was born August 5, 1955 in Inglewood to Charles and Kathleen (née Bullock) Rowland. He attended Gardena High School, enrolled in college at 16, served an LDS mission in Argentina, and married Kathleen (née Fahey) Rowland in 1977. They later attended Brigham Young University together and welcomed their first of 4 children in 1979. He graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering and worked and traveled as an engineer for a number of years before becoming an entrepreneur.
Michael and Kathleen married young and were each other’s partner in every sense of the word. They worked together to make a happy life filled with family, service, learning, and love. Michael was passionate about writing, reading, and music, specifically playing the guitar. His family has many wonderful memories of him singing and playing the guitar at Thanksgiving jam sessions, in the front room waiting for Mom to get ready, or late at night to wind down. He was a loving, smart, and kind man who devoted his life to his faith and his family.
He is survived by his beloved sweetheart, Kathleen, of 42 years; his mother Katie “Mata” Rowland; his brother Jerold (Darrelyn) Rowland; his 4 children: Brian (Melissa) Rowland, Aaron (Erica) Rowland, Maureen (Ken) Goepfert, and Kellie (Matthew) Hardin; his 9 grandchildren who gave him great joy: Charlie, Vincent, Tommy, Ted, Ava, Leo, Alex, Danny, and Talia. He is preceded in death by his father, Charles “Tata” Rowland. Michael’s legacy lives on in the people who he loved and gave everything to. We will miss his sense of humor, his laugh, his knowledge, his hugs, his stalwart faith, and his sage words of wisdom.
In lieu of flowers, donations towards funeral arrangements can be made to Kathleen Rowland. A viewing at 10am and a memorial service at 11am will be held at the Raymond LDS Chapel on Wednesday, February 27. Immediately following the memorial service, attendees are invited to witness a graveside dedication at Loma Vista Memorial Park.
