James J. Mallon, Sr., 81 Garden Grove, California Jim Mallon died Sunday, September 18, 2011 surrounded by the love and prayers of his family. Born, March 20, 1930 in the Bronx to Mary and Charles Mallon, Jim was the youngest of 11 children. He attended Immaculate Conception Elementary and Cardinal Hayes High School. As a young marine, he served his country in the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart. Returning from Korea through Treasure Island (San Francisco) Dad decided to make his life in California. He married the Irish love of his life, Rita Cullen, in Los Angeles on October 15, 1955. A man of deep and simple faith in God, he taught by the example of his life the primacy of faith, family and citizenship. A devoted Yankee and Notre Dame fan, Dads love for sports made him a favorite. Pop had a special place in hearts of so many dear friends, young and old. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Rita, children, S. Colleen Mallon, O.P.; Charles and Pam Mallon, Mary and Gerhard Mallon-Behrens, James and Lindy Mallon, and nine grandchildren, Bryan, A.J., Erin, Matthew, Colleen, Brigid, Katie, Kelly and Megan.
