Her ranching family moved frequently to places including Springville, Utah, Black Rock, Nevada, Milford, Utah,Deep Creek, Oregon, and Santa Monica, California, among others. It was not uncommon to have to share the family car with calves, sheep, and hay.
Carol Lee graduated from Canoga Park High School in 1960. While attending Brigham Young University, walking from class one cold, snowy evening in Provo, Utah, she was offered a ride home by a friend. In the crowded back seat of the car, she met her future husband, Earl Leslie Underwood, Jr. (Les). They were married and sealed together in the Salt Lake, Utah Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on March 24, 1965.

She is joined in rest by her father and mother, Heber Leo Clayson and Ethel Martin, her baby brother Craig Clayson, her younger brother Clair Clayson, her sisters Vonda Clayson Sanford and Marlene Clayson Galbraith.
Carol Lee loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and homemaker. She and Earl have been active members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout their lives and marriage, and have served faithfully in many callings, including serving in the temple presidency in Montevideo, Uruguay.
