Wanda Arlene Comings died Tuesday, Nov. 15 at Brookdale Senior Living in Fort Collins, Colorado, just four days after her 99th birthday. Wanda is survived by her three sons, Lawrence Daniel Comings; Ronald David Comings; Stephen Douglas Comings; and daughter, Patricia JoAnn Stearly; along with 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Born November 11, 1923 in West Plains, Colorado located near Sterling, Wanda’s birth certificate says she was born at home. She grew up near Wellington, Colorado where she attended high school before moving to Fort Collins. As a young woman, Wanda worked as the head cashier at both the Aggie and the Lyric Theaters.
Wanda married Larry Duane Comings of Fort Collins on March 30, 1946 at the Catholic Church in Platteville, Colorado following their engagement during World War II. Larry served in the navy and Wanda did her part for the war working in a parachute factory. They lived in California for a few years before returning to Fort Collins where Wanda lived nearly 69 years, the last seven at Brookdale Senior Living. She was a faithful member in the parish of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
Wanda was known by everyone for her winning smile, cheery disposition and infectious laughter. She will be remembered always by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as a loving mother and grandmother who cared deeply for her entire family. A viewing will be held Monday evening, Nov. 21 from 5pm to 9pm at Resthaven Funeral Home at 8426 S. Hwy 287 in Fort Collins. The funeral service and burial will be Tuesday, Nov. 22 at 11am also at Resthaven.
