Rick was born August 19th, 1954, to Jesse and Wilma (Hodges) Warren in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He was the younger of two boys, preceded in both birth and death by his brother, George Franklin Warren. Growing up, he and George spent their summers hunting and fishing with their cousins around the Warren family farm in Marianna, Arkansas.
In 1972, Rick graduated from Messick High School in Memphis, Tennessee. After high school, Rick began working as a carpenter, a career that he would continue for a few decades. He mastered the trade and became known for his attention to detail, notably strong shoulders, and no apparent fear of heights.
In the late 70s, his work brought him to Colorado, where he fell in love with the Rocky Mountains. While hitchhiking on Independence Pass, he was picked up by a young woman who would later become his first wife. Together, they started a family in Buena Vista, Colorado.
Rick spent his time hiking, hunting, 4-wheeling, studying Buddhism, and reading historical novels of frontier explorers and mountain men. He was an active runner and mountaineer, completing a marathon and summiting 51 of Colorado’s 54 “fourteeners”, as well as various other peaks across the western U.S.
Rick loved helping and supporting many others during their path to sobriety. He had a gift for listening and living by example without judgment of others. He was known for his humor, quick wit, and kind heart.
Survivors include his daughter, Camille Warren; long-time partner, Cindy Yordon; and other cherished, extended family.
A memorial service for Rick will be held Saturday, January 8th, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Christ United Methodist Church: 301 E Drake Rd. Fort Collins, Colorado 80526.
