Shortly after her birth, Peggy’s family moved to Green River, Wyoming. She graduated from Green River High School in 1939, where she played in the Drum and Bugle Corps. After graduation, she met John (Jay) Santich who played in Ike Oja’s band at the Playmore Dance Hall in Rock Springs.
Peggy married Jay on 23 October 1941 in Rawlins, Wyoming. Between living in Rock Springs and Rawlins, they raised 6 children and jointly owned and operated Jay’s Drive-in for over 30 years.
In 1980, Peggy moved to Fort Collins to be closer to her children. She worked for Bob Coonts Design until her retirement in 1989. Peggy’s greatest love was swimming and has set records at both the Rocky Mountain Senior Games and the Wyoming Senior Olympics. In 2005, she was awarded the “Athletic Achievement Award” sponsored by the City of Fort Collins and Poudre Valley Hospital. At age 90, Peggy was still swimming and competing! Besides swimming, she mastered the lost-art of hand quilting, for which she won prestigious awards.
Peggy is survived by 5 children: Karla Santich, Jay (Kim) Santich, Peggy (Brad) Ruble, Jamie (Rocky) Jensen, and Jon (Melissa) Santich; 8 grandchildren: Amy (Michael) Dunn, Marko (Lindsay) Ruble, Jennifer (Tyler) Norris, Madeleine & Gordon Ruble, Sam Santich, Grace & Ben Jensen; and 6 great-grandchildren: Chris, Michelle, Tony, Madison and Xander Dunn, and Jack Ruble; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Mary (Siegert) Henetz, ex-husband Jay Santich, and oldest son, Jan Santich. A memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 9, 2019, in Fort Collins, CO at Allnutt Funeral Home, 825 West Drake.
