June Marie Beers passed away July 15, 2022, in Fort Collins. Born in 1929 in Peabody, KS., her parents lived in Ft. Collins but moved to her father’s hometown of Peabody during the depression years, returning to Ft Collins in 1934, where June resided for the rest of her life.
A descendent of two pioneer families, June attended public school in Fort Collins, graduating from Fort Collins High School in 1948.
June married her high school sweetheart, George Beers, in October 1948. They made Fort Collins their home and were together for 42 years. George passed away at age 61. June had two sisters and one brother and was the mother of three children: Ted, Sandra, and David.
June worked for JJ Newberry and then later employed for nineteen years with Montgomery Ward. She was a member of First Christian Church (later Christ Center Church) for 65 years, where she was very active. Her commitment and joy in serving The Lord were one of her greatest satisfactions. She was a member of the choir and CWF. June served as the church historian and wedding coordinator. Later, she worked in the Outreach Center for over 27 years. She and George were charter members of the Fort Collinaders Square Dance Club; this was a highlight of their life together. They made many lasting friendships and went on many trips with the club; annual outings to Glenwood Springs and one to Hawaii.
June was a member of the Daughters of Colorado Pioneers and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
June was fortunate to have a close family with sisters, her brother, and extended family that often gathered for holidays, events and a lot of cabin and mountain time. She took several trips with her sisters and other family trips to Ohio, North Carolina, Arizona and Seattle, and a trip to Spain with family in 1997. She and George spent many weekends at “Beers’ Lil Cabin” in the Poudre Canyon, often with grandkids.
She was an avid collector of teacups, saucers, stamps, coins, music boxes, and Boyd’s Bears.
She enjoyed reading her Bible, gardening, family history, and flea market shopping, where she was always on the hunt for “just one more Boyd’s Bear.” June loved and served her Lord and adored and delighted in her children, grandchildren (especially), and her extended family
June is survived by daughter Sandy (Glenn) Stewart and son David (Cathy) Beers; grandchildren Kelly Viergutz, Matthew (Ashlea) Beers, Christopher (Ceren) Beers, Devin Beers, and Sean Beers; four great-grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren, and 7 step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Wilma Hess and Pauline White, and several nieces and nephews.
June was preceded in death by her husband George, her oldest son Ted and his wife Nancy, her parents Peg and Les, and her brother Dan.
