When she was two years old they moved to Washington, DC' as the depression had limited their prospects in Detroit. Her father became the Purchasing Agent for Arlington County, Virginia, where they lived until Joanne was married. She went to the Arlington Public Schools, Strayer Business College, and graduated from Philadelphia General Hospital with an RN degree in 1950.
She married Harry B. Taylor Jr. on February 24th, 1951 at Arlington Methodist Church in Arlington, Virginia. They lived for two years in Cherry Point, North Carolina, where Dr. Taylor was stationed with the U.S. Marine Corps, and they had their first child. After his discharge from the Navy, they moved to Norfolk County, Virginia where Joanne worked as her husband's nurse for five years before moving his practice into the city of Norfolk, Virginia.
Joanne was a floor nurse at Norfolk General Hospital until their children began to arrive with their second, third and fourth child. Norfolk was her home where she was active in the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church and the Lochaven Garden Club. In January 2016, she moved with her husband to Fort Collins, Colorado, where three of her children lived. She resided in Fort Collins until May 24th, 2024 when she went to join her Lord, Jesus Christ.
She is survived by her husband, Harry, daughters, Mary Taylor Goforth and Anne Taylor, and her sons, Harry Baylor Taylor and William Booth Taylor.
Funeral services were held at St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Loveland on Friday May 31st, 2024. Joanne's family greatly appreciates all those who were able to attend in person and via livestream, as well as those who sent flowers, cards, condolences, and otherwise shared their love.
