She loved to travel and took her four girls on countless memorable trips and adventures. There was always room in her well-traveled Rambler station wagons for family, friends and usually a couple of dogs.
Ginger was born on August 5, 1935, to Carl A. and Ethel E. Piper (née Sack) in Los Angeles, California. Her brother Paul A. Piper joined the family March 15, 1940. She spent her teenage years on the family farm in Fort Lupton, Colorado. She was active in 4-H and spent many hours on her horse Prince. She graduated from Fort Lupton High School in 1953.
Ginger married John Powell in 1954, and they had four daughters, Desiree Lynn, Sharon Ann, Paula Suzanne and Lori Ellen. The family settled in Thornton, Colorado, where the house was always filled with neighbors and friends. Ginger’s girls became her “merry band of adventurers,” traveling the country with dogs, friends and family packed into her Rambler. She traveled to to nearly all fifty states and visited Germany and France with her brother Paul. When she wasn’t working or traveling, she enjoyed spending time with her kids and grandkids. She was happiest when she was surrounded by family and friends.
Ginger is survived by her daughters, Desiree Hedger, Sharon (Kevin) Ferguson, Paula Globensky and Lori Sittner; seven grandchildren, Curt Powell, Santford Hedger IV, Rebecca Hedger, Zachery Sittner, Jacob Sittner, Angela Ivey, and Kimberly Raymond; three great grandchildren, Aaron Lindsey, Zoey Raymond and David Raymond; her brother, Paul Piper, her niece Amanda Piper and great niece Taylor Piper;
and Honorary 5th daughter, Sandy Gill.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl A. Piper and Ethel Evelyn Piper (née Sack) and one grandchild Santford Lee Hedger III.
The Celebration of Life for Ginger will be on Wednesday October 9, 2024 from noon until 2pm at The Lee Martinez Farm at 600 N Sherwood St, Fort Collins, Colorado.
