He graduated from Coal Grove High School in Ohio in 1957. He married Mary Carolyn Saunders in 1958 at Sugar Creek Missionary Church in Lawrence County, OH. His favorite sport was fishing with his wife, Mary.
He started as a bag boy, rose to store management, then retired in 1999 from the Kroger Company after 42 years of service. He served with the Ohio National Guard and was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was active in church, serving as Sunday school superintendent, teacher, and trustee.
After retiring to Fort Collins, he enjoyed being a volunteer for the Colorado-Fort Collins Welcome Center, the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery, and the Fort Collins Natural Areas. He was a Master Naturalist and a Volunteer Ranger Assistant with the Fort Collins Natural areas.
Charlie will be greatly missed by friends and family in Kentucky, Ohio, and Colorado. Due to the widespread location of family members and Charlie’s wishes to be cremated, an online Memorial Service is being planned. A link to the virtual service will be added at a later date.
Charlie is survived by his son, Brian (Margaret) Sturgill and daughter, Mary (Andy) Sartain; grandchildren, Natalia (Jack) Lynch, Aaron (Kira) Sartain, and Louis Sartain; great-grandchild Charles Lynch; sister, Norma Carey and brother, Gary (Linda) Sturgill. Charlie was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, and parents, Milford and Ruth Sturgill.
