Benjamin "Ben" Elias Sharp, of Fort Collins, Colorado, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2024. Born in North Carolina on January 21, 1976, he was the son of Greg Sharp and Sherry (Fleetwood) Richard.
Ben earned his Ph.D. From Clemson University in Environmental Engineering in 2013, a Master’s degree in Statistics from Montana State University in 2007, and his Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Evansville in 1999, where he met his wife, Julia (Nichols) Sharp. Ben and Julia married in 2000 and they shared many adventures. Their daughter Teagan was born in 2014. Teagan was the center of Ben’s universe, and Ben was her hero.
Ben was passionate about many things including family, the outdoors, fitness, and lifelong learning. He was compassionate, caring deeply for others, and made many fast friends. He found joy in talking and learning from the journeys of others, and leaning in to help friends and family in both the lightest and darkest of times. He was deeply interested in his grandfather’s (Robert Fleetwood) sermons from the 1980s, and had been working to digitize and memorialize them for his family.
Along with his wife, Julia, and daughter Teagan, Ben will be eternally missed by his mother, Sherry (Fleetwood) Richard of Knoxville, TN (Jerry); his father, Greg Sharp of Versailles, KY; brother Ethan Sharp and family (children Eliot, Olivia, Alan, and Liam) of Versailles, KY; brother Nathan Sharp and family (wife Stacy, and children Trevor, Evalyn, Rebecca, Tadeo) of San Antonio, TX; sister Amaris Sharp of Fort Worth, TX; extended family, Julia’s family, and many friends.
Ben was preceded in death by his cousin, Hayden Fleetwood, his mother-in-law, Karen Nichols, his uncle Terry Fleetwood, and his grandparents.
We invite you to contribute photos, memories, and stories about Ben below. We will be compiling these into a memory book for Teagan.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the YMCA of the Rockies: https://www.ymcarockies.org/annual-fund/.
