As a young man, Ron began his life of service as a Boy Scout, by volunteering as the bugle boy for the local VFW, and acting as an altar boy for his church. During one of the parades where he led the band, he caught the eye of a young girl that would later become his wife. After the bombing at Pearl Harbor in 1941, Ron joined the Navy and served as a Seabee in the Pacific theatre. He eventually transferred to the submarine service, following in the footsteps of his father, and served with distinction throughout WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. After more than 20 years on active duty, Ron transferred to the Naval Reserve as a Senior Chief. He then continued his legacy of service with the Department of the Navy for an additional 20 years.
Ron met his wife, Marie, during a blind date set up by one of his Navy buddies, and the ensuing courtship lasted 70 years. This union was blessed with 3 children, 7 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren.
Ron is survived by his wife Marie, sister Norma Proulx, daughter Doreen Rowan, and sons Ronald Burdick Jr, and Michael Burdick.
No formal services will be held, and the family will have a private service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Disabled American Veterans at secure.dav.org/donate. Condolences can be sent by email to [email protected] or www.shaffer-jensenchapel.com. Arrangements are under the direction of Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette.
