Johnnie Mack, son of the late Lonnie and Bessie Boyd Mack, was born on March 3, 1921 in Waynesburg, SC. On Monday, October 23, 2017 at Veterans Hospital, Johnnie passed away. His wife, Josie Gladney Mack, preceded him in death in May 1988. His daughters Barbara Parahoo, J. Renee Love, and son Richard Mack also preceded him in death. In addition to his parents, Johnnie was preceded in death by his brothers, Lonnie Mack, Milton Mack, Sr., William Mack, and Samuel Mack, Sr.; and his sisters, Lois
Jackson and Mildred Ellis.
Johnnie is survived by, son Ali Muhammad of Washington, DC; Phillip Mack Sr. of Laurel, MD; his daughter, Malinda Coleman of Temple Hills, MD; his brothers James Mack of New Haven, CT, Jessie Mack and David Lee Mack of Granite Quarry, NC. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Sherri Jackson, Terrence Jefferson, Lisa Williams, Sharnell Mack-Royal, Shelia Coleman, Andrea Olive, Danny Love, LaTarsha Price, Marissa Dunaway, Phillip Mack, Jr., and Alfonzo Mack. He is also survived by his 15 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Johnnie was a cement mason for SMC Corporation and later in his career he started his own company, Johnnie Mack’s Cement Contractor Company. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 until 1949. He was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Front Royal, VA. He was baptized on June 19, 1968 and served as a faithful servant until his death.
