Sharon Kay Alpers was born on February 16, 1940 to Victor Ernest and Katheryn Lorraine Kurrle in Burlington, Iowa and passed into the glory and the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 19, 2015. She was 75 years old.
"Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints." -Psalm 116:15
Sharon was the widow of retired Lt. Col. John H. Alpers, Jr. who passed peacefully on August 6, 2015. They both graduated from Boulder High School and resided in Erie, Colorado.
Sharon is survived by her brother, Charles "Buzz" Kurrle, her three children - Vicki Kay Burroughs, Kristi Ray Schwisow (wife of Jay Schwisow) and John H. Alpers. III (husband of Robin Alpers, mother of Madeline and Lillian Owen), her six grandchildren - Kayla Barker (wife of Clint Barker), Joshua Schwisow (husband of Jessica Schwisow), Mercy Schwisow, Melissa Schwisow, Jordan Alpers and Rylan Alpers and her one great-granddaughter - Jerusha Schwisow.
Sharon was a devoted daughter, sister, military wife, mom, grandma ("Meme and Gram") and great-grandma. She loved her family and home and taught others about God's love through her sacrificial example and life. Her eyes sparkled when someone she loved walked into the room. She had the sweetest heart.
Sharon loved God's gift of music and enjoyed singing worship songs to Him. Additionally, in the words of her son, John, "she was the most compassionate person I know" and she worked as a Christian counselor at the Boulder Vineyard Church. She was a gifted interior decorator, miniature artist, seamstress and gardener with roses being her favorite flower. She loved celebrating Easter and Christmas. She also loved and owned many dogs throughout the years.
She is loved and missed by her family and friends and they look forward to seeing her again in Heaven in the presence of their Lord.
"But we do not want you to uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep." -1 Thessalonians 4:13-14
John and Sharon Alpers will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery, in Virginia with full military honors, on Friday, January 8, 2016 at 3:00 p.m.
