Rick was a loyal and caring friend from day one for me. He wanted to help. I will forever remember how quick he was to help me when I needed it. If he couldn't help, he'd connect me with someone who could. That is his legacy and I hope I can do half of what he did in that respect. The conversations we had were unlike what I thought they would be from such a cool, fun guy. I often wondered why he had me as a friend and I asked him once about it. He said " Larci, you are fun to be around....... and, you show up."  That really hit me. He truly valued that from his friends. I hope to show up for my friends and family and that they will see me in the way he did.  He truly was a great friend and I will miss him always. He was very proud of his friends and family and loved to brag about them to others. I wish he knew how much this meant to us. 

These are a few of his texts to me that I shared at his memorial. I hope they bring comfort to you as much as they do to me.

Plenty of great memories to share. Loved all of our dinners and happy hours out in Austin. Parking lot smoke breaks. Weekly phone calls full of inappropriate jokes. Text message pranks and memes almost daily. Plotting our escape from software sales.

You always found little ways to make me laugh and make my day more fun. I love you brother and I really wish you knew how much those little moments meant and how much Ill miss you..

You were the most fiercely loyal person I’ve ever met. The friendship you had with Kyle really was like a brotherhood and you immediately let me know I was apart of that family. 

We were so happy you came to be in our wedding and made so many memories that weekend. Everyone knew you by the end of the weekend because who could miss the tall fun guy walking around the resort in a robe.  You almost took out Kyles cousin going for the garter but you also became friends with pretty much everyone that weekend. You truly were one of a kind. 

I always knew if my boys or I were ever in trouble you’d do everything in your power to help. I wish we made you feel the same. Our family will forever have a hole in our heart from losing you.

You were always so fun & a great compliment to Alisa. Y’all were always the life of the party and you were so inviting and welcoming to us in Dallas. It was always nice to catch up and be around you. You were easy to talk to and thoughtful. Alisa and you were yin & yang. I’m sure we would’ve had many more fun memories together as a group. I am thankful for the time we got to know you and I send my love to you up there & to her down here.

Way too many memories come to mind, Ricky boy.   From you helping me get my first job at Due Process as a caddy, to you  landing me an interview at Intel, for me to show up with no socks and have the whole sales floor laugh at me.  

We first met playing cap league baseball.  You were the dominating pitcher and hitter in the league playing for the Giants, and to say I was intimidated to face you was an understatement.  I do believe I got a hit off of  you even though you always denied it.  We then competed in Golf, and once again, out the hundreds of times we played, I barely won.  

You have always been like a big brother to me, a role model.   I always looked up to your confidence.  We had so many great times all throughout the country, NJ, Vegas, DC, FL, San Diego.  I remember about 4 years ago we were both out in CA and you wanted to meet up for dinner. I was not doing well at the time and you wanted to go to the fanciest steak house in Newport called the Mastros. I had no idea how I was going to afford anything on the menu, and when we sat down you said Ronnie Boy, don't worry I got this.  You had a huge heart Rick and would do anything for those close to you.  No matter how much you busted my balls, I know you always had my back.  It was really hard to hear the news, however, I know you are in good hands up there and I will greatly miss you.

My sincere condolences goes out to Alisa, all of your friends, and your whole family.   Love you brother! 

I met Ricky when I was about 8 years old. He was 9 but it seemed like he was 16 to me. He lived 2 houses down from me and visited his father on the weekends. We grew up playing baseball together. I was on the Mets and our team sucked. Until we got Ricky. He took us to the championship game. He was the best player in the league. He was good at everything he did. Baseball, basketball, skateboarding, ping pong, pool, golf. I'll never forget learning to play golf with him and he took his putter and parred a long par 4 with only that club. I was able to use my entire bag and made a triple bogey.  I'll never forget walking around the neighborhood with him as he put his huge silver boom box on his shoulder. We played the Beastie Boys and Wu-Tang walking around. I thought I was the coolest kid ever, not just because I was listening to rap, but because I was walking next to Rick. He seemed so out of my league and for a young skinny kid, for him to invite me over to swim in the pool and for Sunday dinners with Big Rick and Sandi, seemed amazing.  He taught me to drive stick in his old, beat up red Volkswagen Jetta, and didn't get pissed when I stalled 15 times. He invited me to the movie with him and his girlfriend and paid for me too. He was generous, gregarious, and kind.  I'll never forget when his dad had a garage sale. He had this silver bike that was awesome. It had electronic blinkers and a center consul to change gears. He knew I loved that bike and I was finally big enough to ride it. He hid it in the garage until after the garage sale was over and then gave it to me. My childhood would never have been the same without Ricky in it.  I hope his heart and mind is at peace and he is home with our Risen Savior.

I’m gonna miss you so much. I was always happy when you  would call me out of the blue and talk golf and cyber. Always a wealth of knowledge when I needed some advice. You changed a lot of lives Hankins you will be missed!

I already miss seeing your name pop up on my phone with a text, completely out of the blue, and always hilarious. You were so much more than just a colleague. You were a mentor, and a true friend. Although it was my job to support you and Cory, often times it felt like you were the one supporting me. You always made a genuine effort to make me feel seen, appreciated, and a part of your success. 

My favorite memory of you was from the conference we worked together in Dallas. We stumbled upon a card game going down in the bar at the conference venue. Neither of us had any idea how to play the game, but you threw down the $200 buy-in for yourself, and then a $200 buy-in for me, even though I told you I was ok to sit this one out. I ended up winning the game thanks to a lot of beginners luck, and taking away a good amount of cash. We naturally blew it all at the bars that night. I was looking forward to many more nights like that one. 

Going to miss you man. I hope you're in a better place now! Thanks for everything.

Rick was a part of our family and his passing has left a void in our hearts.  We were so happy for him when he met and then married Alisa.  Though we grieve his loss, we know we will see him again in Heaven one day and we will all be a family once again.  Our prayers go out to his loving wife Alisa and her family.

I have been thinking of all the fun times we had camping, going on vacations, and swimming in the pool when we were young. We didn't see each other as much as we got older, but it was always good to catch up when you were in NJ at your Dad's house. Rick, I hope you are at peace now.

I knew Rick to be a man who loved my friend Alisa deeply. He knew good whiskeys, how to make someone feel instantly welcome, and although he wasn’t a man of the dance floor, he knew where to take Alisa and her friends so they could cut a rug. Rick was always kind and generous. Thank you for loving my friend, and her crazy friends. Your presence and friendship will be deeply missed. 

Rick, my precious, caring, generous, handsome, loving son. There are no words to describe the emptiness in my heart.  I felt your pain, heard it in your voice every day in our almost daily conversations but I could not comfort you with the monster you were fighting. You just kept repeating, just talk to me mom. I will never truly understand or accept your loss. You were my blessing and the best gift life could offer. I love you more than anything in this world. I’m sorry I couldn’t reach inside your soul to defeat the anguish you were dealing with daily. You were the most beautiful baby, toddler, teen turned young man. I marveled that something so special could emerge from my body.  Only a mother’s love is all encompassing and never dies as mine will never do. There are no words to describe my love for you. I’ll never forget the operating room and the nurses announcing your weight, 10-4. It was like a CB radio call. I will look for you in my dreams and every day as nature shows the gift of life. I just went through several old college photo albums and there isn't a page I could turn without a photo of you in it, and then again in my wedding album, and then again in my California albums.  You were always there.  When we were together we took advantage of everything life brought our way.  You always had my back.  You'll be missed my friend.

I still can't believe you are gone.  This feels like an absolutely horrible nightmare that we will wake up from, but unfortunately, it's not.  I have so many wonderful memories from when we were kids growing up together.   I remember anxiously waiting for you to get to Gram's so we could go out and explore the farm and play in the house.  It was also inevitable that we would get in trouble because of our shenanigans!  You were the cousin I was closest to despite our disdain for each other's favorite football teams lol!  You were always so talented and you always exceled at everything you did.  You went through some very rough and dark years, but I was so proud to see the beautiful life you built for yourself and Alisa.  I was so proud to see you so successful.   My biggest regret is letting life get in the way and not keeping in touch like we should have.  The only thing that is giving me a tiny bit of comfort is that you are out of pain and with our beloved Gram and Grandpa in heaven.  I just hope you knew I loved you.  Fly high and rest easy my dear cousin.  Until we meet again..

Rick was a person I worked in cybersecurity for years that translated to a personal bond. We spoke each other’s language in so many ways and he was always a trusted voice. He also had an everlasting love for my pup Sofi, and he was honestly one of the few that I could trust to take care of her. Just recently he was taking care of her when I was out of the country, and my parents were the ones that met with Rick to pick Sofi up. After a 30 minute conversation, my father described Rick as a humble and respectful man who had a 20 year plan.

My heart breaks from Rick’s passing and I wish his family my best.

Rick came into my life during a tumultuous period for me as a parent. Rick was extraordinarily loyal, loving, and understanding; Rick knew I needed support, and he insisted on being there for me. He knew people struggling or in pain often do not reach out for help. Rick knew the difference between telling someone to "call me if you need anything" and instead relentlessly being there. He called me constantly and showed up frequently to make sure I was okay. That's the kind of friend Rick was. That's the man I will always remember. I wish I had done the same for him. I did call, but I could have done more. I will miss my friend, Rick.

I miss you already. You became a fast friend after meeting at AttackIQ. You were so fun to work with, and you were one of the most appreciative sales reps I’ve ever known. Our last hurrah before I left AttackIQ was attempting to get ghostface to write a security themed song for us. You convinced me it was actually possible! Spoiler—it never happened. Aside from work, I loved swapping music with you and hearing about the hilarious shenanigans you always seemed to be getting into. I was looking forward to seeing you soon in Vegas for black hat / your bday. RIP.

I’ll miss you brother. Still can’t believe this. Will think if you every time I listen to Wu-Tang. 

While I never met Rick in person, I have been friends with his Mom and Kevin for many years and know how much they both cared for him.  Rick even reached out to me via LinkedIn and I loved seeing his posts, which seemed so upbeat. It saddens me greatly that his loving light is no more, yet it is as nothing compared to the devastation that his wife, parents and loved ones are feeling.  It is a loss that will be felt for many years to come, but time will soften the pain to a dull ache.  My prayers are for him and with all of you.

Rick, while still in high school, was a caddy at a high profile golf club in New Jersey.  On one ocassion, while staying with his father and Sandra, he had the opportunity to caddy for the famous actor Joe Pesci.  Mr. Pesci asked him to go to his car parked some distance away and retrieve his personal cigars.  Rick did and upon returning with them was greeted with a $200 tip.  Rick thanked him, but then also asked for an autograph for my brother Vinnie, whom he knew was a fan.  It was so sweet of Rick to think of my brother and not himself.  Rick was generous like that.  He always called me personally in thanks for every birthday gift.

I will will have a hole in my heart for young Rick as we called him, but I will try to fill it up with good memories like this one.  He will be missed forever.

You were truly one of a kind. You never failed to make me laugh every time I saw you. You were my big brother from another mother. There are so many fond memories I have of you, from discussing our love of old school hip hop, our political debates (much to Alisa’s annoyance), and all around us always having a good time. I love you and you will always have a place in my heart and mind. Thank you for taking care of Alisa and being a good and positive force on this crazy planet. I miss you.

Dear Rick,
I'm so sad to hear that you're gone. When you first moved to San Diego you answered my roommate wanted ad and we became amazing roommates and even better friends for a lotta years. 
I may  never fully  understand why you're no longer with us but I will always remember what a great friend you were to so many people especially the ones who were in dire need. 
That's why this comes as such a shock to me because when Rob M was struggling so hard to survive you were the first person to stop everything you were doing and help him anyway you could to try to save his life. 
 When we were in San Diego the Friendship we had was priceless and still to this day I have found very few people that I had such an amazing friendship with like I did with you.
Take care my friend, say hi to Rob in heaven for me  and also  to all of our other friends who are no longer with us.

I don’t even know where to start. You were a brother to me. You always told me the truth, even when I didn’t want to hear it. One my favorite things about you, is when we would just laugh, because you had just totally out smarted someone and they were still figuring it out! You had an infectious smile and you couldn’t help but smile when you were around! Some of the best conversations, intelligent conversations, I’ve ever had were with, and about life…And just how crazy it can be.
