Mike and I were high school friends in Panama and would reconnect every so often. Yesterday I realized that it had been way too long since either of us reached out and was very saddened to learn what happened. I always admired his brilliant approach to life, not only excelling at everything he did, but doing so with an infectious sense of optimism and faith. I hope the best for his family.

Four years later, and still commemorate Mike's life and his contribution to life itself.  I have been in the Air Force for 30 years in July 2024, I used Mike's mentorship, leadership, and everything that made him special to set the standard and the bar of what a human being and an Air Force Officer should be.  Mike Morales  you will be remembered as the Officer and Friend that any SNCO will be honored to follow you into any conflict.  You were, are, and always be the Guardian Angel...until we meet again, I shall tell all my airmen that I served with Lt Col Mike Morales!!!... Rest in Peace!!!

Time goes by but Michael's memory and his influence stays strong..  When I'm with other White House Fellows or WHF events  (and how I was on the Regional Selection panel that recommended him), I can't help think of Michael and what an impact he made  on me; as a person, a leader and a compassionate and kind individual.  I also thinkof his family and although I did not get to meet them, I just pray that they have found solace.  MIKE: Continue to enjoy the hereafter; to which we will all wind up. I still think of mike morales.  Though I knew him only since his White House Fellows selection, he left a deep  imprint.  So gifted and decent.  May he he at peace And May his family have found solace. Fernando

Still cannot believe Michael is gone.  Met him while deployed to 438 Air Expeditionary Wing in Kabul, Afghanistan, and later at the Pentagon. He was my mentor, colleague, fellow jokester, and friend. I think of him and his beautiful family all the time. He is missed and loved by many. 

On the one year anniversary of his passing, I wanted to remind his family how I continue to think of them and pray for them as they miss him so much. He was someone who was a giver, not a taker. He would give of his time, his attention, and his insights to make other people's lives better like mine. Here is a photo of he and I connecting at Sandy Cove and speaking into each other's lives. He was quite winsome and had wisdom and kindness to offer so many like me. He continues to be missed. May God continue to comfort you all as we remember him especially on this one year anniversary.

Our paths crossed and intertwined via USAF Rugby when Mikey was a Butter Bar (2LT) and myself nearing the end of my 20 year Air Force Career.  He was this young fast kid full of energy with  a great smile.  As with all of us military ruggers we share a brotherhood that is magnified in  addition to our military family.  Although its been well past twenty plus years his passing  hurts all the same.  You're definitely missed Lil Bro.  Gone to soon for sure.  This is not a goodbye rather more a "see you later!"  RIHP My Friend.

He lit up the room with his smile and infectious positivity. He always spoke with so much pride  and love about his family and I always admired his sense of purpose and dedication to service. I’ll miss knowing he’s out there as a force for good in the world and miss catching up with him and hearing about the new passions he was pursuing. The WHF world has lost an incredible fellow and friend. 

My time with Mike at the Pentagon was short. However in that short time we shared stories, talked about family, life and the future. It was always a pleasure to see Morales walk through the door, he always had that BIG smile on his face and you could always count on him not just being positive but making those around him feel like they were on top of the world. I was so proud Of his accomplishments, and remember how happy he was to retire and start his new chapter in his life. You will he missed my friend! My best to you, your family, and all around the world that we’re blessed to be in your presence if just for a short moment. My prayers go out to you and your family. There is no doubt in my mind that EVERYONE loved Mike! They either wanted to be like you, be around you, or just know that they could count on you for whatever it may be! It is August 22, 2013, and USAF Academy classmates (’99) assigned to US Southern Command celebrated their selection for promotion to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. That day, we reminisced how it was just yesterday that we were getting off the bus at the Academy to start day one of Basic Cadet Training. Upon graduation, little would we know how the acts of September 11, 2011, would shape our careers. We made it this far in great part because of our friendship since the Academy days. That friendship became a bond, and through that bond we became family. Mike, our family will never be the same without you, it can’t be. But rest assured, that we will do our best to continue your legacy. You accomplished so much, but above all, you cared. Like the song says…“It’s been a long day without you my friend…and I will tell you more about it when I see you again….Here's a toast to the host / Of those who love the vastness of the sky...”

I had the honor of meeting and serving with Mike at the 86th Operations Support Squadron at Ramstein Air Base.  He was my Director of Operations, and I was the squadron Superintendent.   Those were some memorable times — a tight knit crew, amazing culture, and he was a big part of that.  He aimed to be the best DO he could be...and in turn, bring out the best in every Airmen under that umbrella of responsibility.  

Because we live in a small world, and smaller AF...our paths crossed again at the pentagon.  

He remained the same beacon of light, care, compassion. He was an authentic leader and friend.  Whenever we’d meet up for a quick coffee or lunch...he was fully present, engaged and had a gift of making others feel important.  Months might pass, but when we saw each other nothing changed.  He’d ask how I’m doing.  Ask about my husband and kids by name.  

He was also a humble leader.  He wasn’t shy to reach out for “chiefly” advice.  He valued the perspective of others around him.  

I’m a better Airman and  person because of him.  I’m humbled to have had the chance to run this race with him...if even for a short while.  RIP Mike.  A great American, leader, Airman, and friend.  

I first met Mike and his family during a family vacation at Sandy Cove in Maryland several years back (see photo). Our families had similar core values and similar levels of chaos (we have 6 kids). Our boys at the same age spent the week hanging out together and even stayed in touch some afterwards. Mike and I stayed connected as well as he was in the process of making a series of transitions over the last few years. Was glad to have him speak into my life and him ask me to do likewise in his life. It can feel like there are two types of people, those who take life from you and those who give you life. Mike was one of those who gave you life in each of your touch points with him in life. Mike's unspeakable joy came from his intimate relationship with God (1 Peter 1:8). At this time I have such an unspeakable sorrow for his family as they process this so very sad experience. Praying often for them for God to comfort them as He promises (2 Corinthians 1).  If there anything I can do, other than pray, just ask...

I am a Ghana Air Force pilot and had the opportunity to work with him.Very inspiring person and a gentleman. Will always remember him.My condolences to the bereaved family.May his soul rest in peace.

I met Mike at a conference in Utah. We both arrived early and had lunch together, swapping stories of life in the military and being fathers. We took mountain bikes out in the foothills above Park City and had a wild time acting like young boys again!
Mike and I spoke many times over the last 12 months. My heart goes out to his family. I will think of him every time that I'm in the hills on my bike.

My heart is really heavy on hearing about the demise of my good friend and brother Michael Morales 😔 We met at the U.S. Airforce Safety Center in 2004 while taking the Flight Safety Officers Course. Your collegiality, warmth and love for God was the fulcrum of our 16 year friendship.

  I was a  Ghanaian Airforce officer/pilot and you were a captain and aircraft commander/ instructor on the C-17 in the U.S Airforce. We  became very good friends and shared ideas on flying, safety and above all our faith in Jesus Christ. 

I remember joining you and your then fiancee Elisha for church services in Albuquerque a couple of times. 

We kept our friendship even when we all transitioned from our various air force.

 I went into academia and you into motivational speaking, mentoring and corporate governance. We always lifted each other up during lower ebbs and periods of success.

 I extend my deepest condolences and prayers to Elisha and the Mo brothers. I pray that God will keep you safely in His bosom. Rest in perfect peace. 

You were and will always be a great friend and beautiful soul😥. Adiós, amigo. Te quiero mucho.Te vamos a extrañar.🙏

I have been speechless at the thought that Mike is no longer with us. Seeing so many shared memories and responses warms my heart to think how loved Mike was. I met Mike through my friend Fred and the White House Fellows family, when Mike was transitioning out of the military. At the time, I had just started at Twitter, and Mike and I spent time brainstorming ways he can make contributions in the private sector. Over the last several years, I have gotten to know him very well. This is the guy that always had a smile on his face, looked on the bright side of things, even when things got tough, and always, always, would go out of the way to connect friends and to help those around him. I totally saw him as the next CEO, member of Congress, you name it. He also always talked about his devotion to his family,  and how much he adored his sons.

I'll miss him, and hope he is shining upon all of us from up above.

Words cannot express how sad I am for your loss.  Mike was a tremendous husband, father, officer, and friend.  You may not remember, but your family was kind enough to let me live with you guys for a week in March of 2013 in NJ right before I deployed.  Since I could not be with my family, knowing that you all opened your home up to me meant so much.  Mike was an outstanding role model and someone that I genuinely tried to model my life after.  I know he will be missed greatly.

Please know that we are praying for your family during these times.  

Mike will always have a place in my heart and impact on my life.  I had the pleasure to be Mike's classmate (USAFA '99) and play rugby with him.  I'll never forget the many times that he scored and came running back to group hugs with his huge smile beaming from ear to ear.

Oh Mike, Mike (my husband) and I miss you so much; we miss your infectious laughter, your warm smile, and all our talks about everything and anything around our dining room table.  The only way I ever beat my husband on the Peloton is when you used my user profile (which made us all laugh!)  You made our hearts light and our souls richer.

Mike and his family were neighbors in Vienna VA to our family there, a close-knit group of grownups, kids and dogs. We had the pleasure of spending many times with Mike and will remember his warmth, humor, generosity, dignity and his  eclectic interests which often met our own (Teddy Roosevelt, Celtic festivals).  Mike and family were such good neighbors and friends to our family, and we were sad to see them move away. We are immensely saddened to learn of Mike’s death . We wish all possible comfort for his family.

I met Michael last May at a conference in Utah. It was clear that he was a tremendous professional and loved his family. He was disarming, warm, and exuded the sort of kindness that you don't often find these days. Rest in peace my friend. 

After I heard Mike’s TEDx Talk at Stare Theater, I was truly inspired about his message of being curious and taking a risk. I reached out to him because I was struggling in my job search and wanted advice on networking. He offered to meet at the Pentagon. I had never seen the inside of the Pentagon, so I took him up on it. He gave me a full tour, including the Air Force wing and he paused at the oil painting of the lost man memorial. Explained it fully. I had never understood what the Air Force  memorial was until he explained it. He was so proud of the USAF, and beamed when he showed me the models of the fighter jets and aircraft. 
I remember I asked him if I could take a picture and he smiled, and said “sure.”

I don’t fully understand this loss or what lead to me typing this remembrance, but I know there is a reason I brushed paths with Mike.  RIP.  Condolences to his wife, boys and family. 

I am so sorry for your loss. This is shocking and devastating. I met Mike at the Dialog conference in Utah in 2019. We spent a bunch of time together that weekend. He struck me as someone who was strong, yet vulnerable. He shared his faith with me, as well as his love for his wife and boys. I have 2 boys of my own and we discussed ways we could be better husbands and fathers.

I wish I was a better friend and kept in better touch with him after Dialog. My condolences to Mike's family.

In a difficult time, Michael went out of his way to mentor me, and to be a friend. On a cultural, professional, and personal level, it was easy to connect with him. He just had that ability, to connect, to inspire, and to lead. It was also his empathy and the courage of self-reflection that always stood out to me. His determination and hope were contagious, helping me to push forward in a time of uncertainty. He helped me see a light where there seemed to be none, and in many ways, he was that guiding light for a moment in my life. I will be forever grateful for the time, wisdom, and friendship that he shared with me. 

I met Mike when he first arrived at his new assignment in our office and was struck by how congenial he was as we shook hands and exchanged pleasantries.  This was the case every time we worked an issue... always smiling, always helpful and upbeat and full of energy.  He brought one of his little guys in one afternoon to introduce him to the office before heading out to have dad-son time at the bungy jumping cage nearby and I was so impressed by his taking time for the important things in life.  He took the boys out separately to give them special one on one time.

I met Michael through his TEDTalk. At the time, I worked in the U.S. Speaker Program at the U.S. Department of State. My job was to find the best of the best of those who could engage foreign audiences on a variety of topics. Michael covered so many areas in his life and never seemed to fit in one square box, which was one of his strongest gifts.
When I left the TED Talk on Nov. 30, 2018, my notepad read, "Find a way to program Michael Morales". I quickly followed up with Michael on a phone call.  He was in career transition, and we never were able to send him out.  I regret that because he would have excelled at that as he did everything else.
Michael was the type of person you want your kids to meet and view as a role model. He was the type of guy every father hopes their daughter comes home with someday.  May the world be blessed with more people like you, Michael. You remain a hero in our eyes.

I had the privilege of meeting Michael very early in our life. We played Peewee Football together and our families were bonded by great friendship. This definitly breaks my heart and I still think Im going to wake up from a nightmare. Michael was a very kind and loving friend, he was brilliant and very talented. He could do anything he put his mind into. I remember the 1994 Antilles Football season, Mike was trying to play WR and at that time his catching skills weren't totally there. Being Mike, he got to practice early and wanted me to throw the ball to him 20, 30, 40 times. By mid season he was one of my starting WR. I can only say good things about Mike, I could be here until 2021 and we last saw each other in 1996. To his family, my heart goes out to you! From our family, WE LOVE ALL OF YOU!!

Wow, I had no idea you passed away. I'm so sorry that your life was cut short so early. I will never forget riding together in the van on the way back to the Stein Erikson Lodge in Utah from our hiking adventure at Dialog 2019. I so enjoyed your zest for life, hearing a bit about your background, sharing vulnerabilities together of what success looks like. You seemed larger than life, but I also admired the openness and willingness to be vulnerable. Rest in peace, my friend.

A brilliant, beautiful soul. Grateful for moments with him while working at JPMC. Michael had that “instant family” affect with all those he met. His Spirit was alive and engaging – it’s like you could almost see it. May he rest in the arms of our LORD – our Father of the Heavenly Lights (James 1:17). Michael was like starlight – and as a star is extinguished, the resulting supernova outshines everything else in the galaxy. May his legacy shine bright. Deeply heartfelt prayers for the Morales family.

I was a producer with the TEDxTysons team in Virginia. I was fortunate enough to work with Mike on a couple shows – one he hosted and one where we was a speaker. He was wonderful at both. He had a way of pulling you in with his stories. He was such an amazing guy. I feel blessed to have known him. I am heart-broken. I also know he leaves behind a strong legacy. I won’t forget him. 

It was my pleasure meeting Michael at Linda McMahon's visit to Puerto Rico. He made all of us proud of his success.

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Michael Morales. I met Michael in 1997, when I was teaching at the Air Force Academy and he was in my Aero Class. Michael was an enthusiastic student with a positive attitude, definitely a joy to have in class. I have always just been impressed by his humble character and strong work ethic. Just a few years ago, I was blessed to reconnect with Michael and meet his beautiful family when they moved to Vienna, VA. My life has been blessed by the moments I got to spend with Michael. I lift this family in prayer for peace and comfort in their grief.

I worked with Mike at JP Morgan Chase and remember so vividly our first meeting.  We met for lunch as a meet and greet and sat outside on a warm spring day.  He was so enthusiastic about his new role and eager to learn and grow his network.  He was also very interested in me, my role our collective backgrounds.  We could have talked for hours!  Since then I have kept in touch as I could and will now miss our meetings.  He was so full of life, always a smile and kind word.  I send my deepest sympathies to his family and hope you can find comfort in knowing, while limited, you had a very special person in your life.  

Mike was our White House Fellow at SBA in 2016. He sat two offices down and we collaborated on a project that aimed to bring technology tools to startups and entrepreneurs. Everyday, Mike would come in to work with a smile on his face and would ask how we all were doing. He cared deeply about the people he worked with and the missions he served, but most of all, I know that he cared for his family. He kept photos on display of them throughout his office and he was always excited to share about what his kids were doing. He always spoke lovingly of his wife and how much he admired her. We spoke about God together and our faith. He was the type of person that you could say anything to and you knew he wouldn’t judge you. He always listened. I was so excited when he gave me his challenge coin, from the 538th Air Expeditionary Advisory Squadron, which I will cherish. The world has lost a great man, colleague, and friend. 

I met Michael (Miguel) when he started with JPMorgan last summer and immediately had a connection. Beyond seeming like such a good guy, he was clearly a professional and exhibited a great work ethic and excellence. I didn't know him in great detail, but I do know he loved his family and was committed to improving and supporting all involved in his workspace.
I will miss yelling "Morales!" every time I saw him, because it made him grin and smile, while he gave me a look that conveyed "Don't do that, we are in the office, be professional!"
To his family, friends and all who were close to him - you are in my prayers.

I am so sorry for your loss.  There are no words.  I will be praying for Alicia and the boys and the rest of the family.  "He is before all things and in him all things hold together." Col. 1:17  This is my prayer for you all, the God is holding you tight, together in His love.

I will be forever grateful for having been friends. Your loss is an incomprehensible tragedy that saddens me each time I think of you. I pray for your beautiful family during such a tragic time. I literally just met Michael three weeks ago, interviewing for an open role he had. The interactions that I had, while brief, I knew I wanted to be in his team badly. He was so open about my skills and abilities and although I did not get the role, he still responded to my request for feedback. He was so genuine and transparent, unlike anything I have received before. I knew at that point that I was going to use the feedback and continue to work hard on it, to eventually get on his team. I am so saddened of the loss, regardless of the short time I knew him- it’s obvious how easily he touched lives. 

Though we only worked together for a short time, may you rest in His peace.  It is with my deepest condolences to Mike's wife, sons, and family.  May the Lord carry you, give you strength, and keep you.

Mike and I have shared countless victories on the Rugby field together for the Charleston Outlaws.   Our positions were next to each other as Fullback and Wing.  He was one of the best with whom I've had the pleasure to share the field.  He will be sorely missed, but he will always be an Outlaw!

I served with Mike in Afghanistan for 10 months.  He is one of the finest American officers and USAF commanders I ever worked with.

When Mike found out he was selected to be a White House Fellow, I joked that he would be carrying the "Football" in one hand and Obama's golf clubs in the other...he punched me in the chest and said, "that's right!"

You will be missed, but your memory will be honored and blessed.  God speed

On behalf of the entire Charleston Outlaws Rugby Club Nation, our sincere and heartfelt condolences to the Morales family.

As the former head coach of the Charleston Outlaws RFC, it was an absolute pleasure and privilege to have known Mike.  His character and larger than life persona epitomized the spirit that is rugby.  His dedication to the concept of team was inspiring, the way he played the game enthralling, his speed was electric and his smile said it all!    

It was one of the lowest times in my life. I had one of the biggest interviews of my life, and couldn't get out of bed. But I bucked up, drove from the hotel to the interview, and put on a smile.

And in maybe the third set of interviews one of the panelists asked me "if not you, who should go to the finals." I looked her in the eyes and said "let's be honest. We all know Michael Morales is going all the way to the White House."

And he did.

In between interviews we all chatted. For some reason I trusted Mike, and let slip how I was passing through a tough time. He embraced me, we went out after, and have checked in on each other ever since.

Thank you Michael, for blessing me with your presence and inspiration. No doubt your kind heart, deep soul, and bright smile has changed many lives as much as they have mine. The world has lost one of the great ones.

Mike, not many people leave such a footprint in life such as you did.  You were the finest officer, person, and mentor that I have ever met in my years in the Air Force.  I will always remember that you inspired me to be the best SNCO, your example had a profound meaning in my Air Force career, as well as your kindness, your wisdom, and  the deep sense of family values you imprinted on me as well as everyone that knew you.  The world lost a great soul and a great man.  Until I see you again...El senor te tenga en su gloria, y te de paz eterna en compania de Jesus.  Amen.

I worked with Michael in South Florida when he was in uniform.  Mike came into our office and made an immediate positive impact that continued when he moved into a leadership position.  Michael had the heart of a warrior but had an incredible perspective, was gracious, and soft-spoken.  We will miss his infectious smile and quick wit.  See you on the other side brother.

I worked with Mike at SOUTHCOM where he was our Chief, Training & Exercises and I have no words to describe this great person who had a great heart and was always compassionate to those who were showing weaknesses at times, he will stop doing everything and will make the necessary time to help those in need when times were rough. Very intelligent, diligent, responsible, religious person who I had the great honor to work with.  God bless his family during this such a hard times. Mike, thank you for being such a great human being and for teaching us the great things that God has for everyone of us. Until we meet again my FRIEND!

Mike and I went to 'the zoo' and knew each other through the USAFA Catholic Cadet Choir.   One of my my vivid memories of him comes from a Choir trip to the East Coast my Firstie year.  We sung and preformed at numerous churches and communities in New York, Ellis Island, and New Jersey.  He and I shared the same sponsor family in New Jersey for a few days during our trip.  It was refreshing to get away from the Academy and get to know 'him' out of uniform.  From there, we were always connected...my Puerto Rican brother.  On active duty, we kept in-touch, mainly b/c of our connection as tactical airlift pilots.  I was happy for his continued success after his transition to civilian life.  He appeared to be on a roll.

Such a loss.  What heartbreak.

Thank you for the support, kind words and light you brought to our lives in Afghanistan. There where hard times and difficults days, but knowing there where people like you in our church community that you could talk toand would lend you a hug when times where rough made it barable. Earth has lost a true angel 😔, may we take comfort now in knowing we will see eachother one day up in heaven. I will always charish the Memories of your bright and kind spirit.  My condolences to your family of whom you always spoke with such love and affection, may you find strength in these unimaginable difficult times.

Dear Michael,
Your energy, your incredible smile, your thoughtfulness, your empathy, your incredible accomplishments, your passion for your boys, and your curiosity will never be forgotten. Thank you for being such a powerful ray of sunlight. My prayers are with you, your family and all of your loved ones.

Mike’s reach and love for people knew no boundaries—no judgement, nothing too taboo. After getting to know him only a few months at JPMC, he was the one that remembered and messaged me on the morning of my IVF surgery. He came and checked on me a week later... when I had found out it hadn’t worked. He comforted me in the middle of the office floor while I ugly cried, bawling my eyes out. I am forever grateful and honored to have called him a friend. I am mournful that your light was flickering while you were selflessly lighting up others’ around you. Rest In Peace, dear Mikey. You are loved.

The entire Class of ‘99 is mourning for Mike. I think everyone knew him and everyone liked him.  Such a tragic loss.  Here’s a Toast...

We are so fortunate to have met you as a family. Mike really was such a force of nature - he was everything- charismatic, compassionate, courageous, intelligent, extremely accomplished, dedicated, a loving husband and father to his beautiful wife and wonderful children.. It is very rare that such a force of a person enters your life.  That is exactly what Mike was to me when we started working together.   I had the wonderful privilege to work closely with him at the Bank for the past 7 months and I say from the bottom of my heart that I will truly miss him.   To the Morales Family; I have you all in my thoughts in prayers.  God Bless all of you and God Bless to Mike wherever you are.   The recent Zoom with Mike and another co-worker wearing their airman helmets is something I will never forget now.    

Michael and I went to school together in PR. He was always such a peaceful soul with a smile that could be seen from across a crowded room. One night after a school play, I remember him looking up to see a single star next to a crescent moon. I remember him admiring that star and saying that he would use that symbol next to his signature in moving forward. Today, I know he’s that star! Shine bright my friend, shine over your bride and Mobros. You will be missed until we meet again in another life.  

Michael and his brother Jason Morales were another family of brothers in the Antilles High School family. Our families knew each other well and we were also close in sports being Pee Wee football Fort Buchanan team players and AHS alumni on the Football Varsity teams and other sport activities and academics being that we looked up to his Class of 95 as examples. Michael: mi hermano, my teammate, my friend. 

We knew each other since we were eight and nine years old during our days at Pee Wee Football.  We continued to enjoy our friendship through years of rec football.

We were opponents when we played high school football but always looked forward to catching up once the game was over. 

We reconnected many years later in DC as adults and  married with children.  I am truly blessed to have known you.   I will miss you forever, my friend. 

Mike was an extraordinary person, humble and truly altruist.
He left this world way too early.
Mike, you are,  with your family, present in my prayers.
May your soul rest in peace.

 I don't know if have ever met someone who smiled as much as Mike.  I worked with him at SOUTHCOM and he was sincerely one of the nicest people I have ever met.   I know I speak for many who feel the incredible sadness of his loss.  My deepest condolences for his family.  Prayers for you, God bless.

I have 2 special memories of Michael. The first is of him as a little boy singing a silly song , making faces, being goofy at the phosphorescent bay when I visited Puerto Rico .
The second was when I broke my foot and he was having his retirement ceremony. He encouraged me to come, to get on a plane and be with the family broken foot and all. He made me feel so special by doing that. I have a picture of him and I from that event and I have been looking at it every day. 
I think he made everybody he met feel special. 
I grieve for his family .

I first met Mike when I coached him for the combined services rugby team and I still remember everything about that week.  After not being in touch for years I ran into him when our sons were both playing touch rugby here in VA. I asked him how have things been and he said "Ok".  What an understatement... Mike succeeded everywhere and I will miss him.. My deepest sympathies for Elisha and the boys... 

We feel blessed to have met you back in August as we both we registering our sons only a day or two before school started here in Frisco. You and Monique had such a friendly glow that drew me into meeting you both. Over the past few months it was such a pleasure to have gotten to know you better if only the time was longer. 
You poured my first glass of scotch and made me laugh until I lost my voice that night we were over. Ken and I loved hearing the stories of your travels, military time, and moving headaches. We had so hoped to share many more happy moments together celebrating your new home and that weekend getaway to the Hill Country. Mike although our time was short, your infectious smile is one the Petersen family will always remember. The last time I saw you we said we would hug, but couldn’t due to covid. I now wish we had anyway. Rest In Peace my friend, our door is always open for your wife and sons. 

For as long as I knew him, Mike was the embodiment of selfless service, of the highest integrity, and of warmth and love for his fellow man. A friend to all, a charismatic leader, and a bright smile to light up a room. I’m grateful to have reconnected and spend some time reminiscing at our USAFA 20th reunion. He made a lasting impact on every single person who had the pleasure of knowing him, and I am heartbroken that light is now dimmed. A toast to our brother and friend.

Michael was an advisor for my startup but he quickly turned into a close friend and confidant. 

He would refer to me as "brother", not in a casual conversational sense, but in a way filled with love and friendship. I knew him for just three years and we only met a few times but I trusted him completely without reservation. 

People talk about leadership skills and why leaders matter. I don't think I fully appreciated this until I met Mike. He was a leader, every day and in every interaction we had. I wanted to be more like Mike because he made people around him want to do their best. I sure did. 

Elisha and Mobros - Please take care of yourselves. Celebrate the best of Mike often. We will all be better for having known him.



Mike was wonderful person, very grounded ,  humble and cheerful. He was a natural people's person, left a positive impact. Mike's eye would lit up with genuine happiness & excitment when he spoke about his family (Wife and 4 Kids). He will be missed.

Mike was my right hand man as my Director of Operations when I was the Demons Squadron Commander at the Academy. I relied on his guidance, leadership, and friendship. I wish I could have told him Thank You for helping me/for us to succeed in those positions. I would not be where I am today. Mike truly impacted and touched everyone’s lives. He had a heart of gold.  Here’s a toast...to a classmate, a friend, and a brother.  I will miss you but I hope to see you in God’s kingdom and we will race once again. GOLD will shine in 99.

I was honoured to fly the C-17 with Mike in the Air Force. You could tell he had that “it” factor.  A joy and intellect that would take him to the moon and back.  Watching his career blossom, his fitness abilities, the family photos and the TED talk made me proud to know him.  Seeing him in Miami with his family while I was going through 747 training was a nice break from the stress of training.  You will be missed.  

Mike was a great leader, colleague, and friend.  I had the pleasure of working with him at the Pentagon and was always impressed by his intellect, capability, and thoughtfulness.  I admired him very much.  The world has lost a great man.   

It was truly a blessing to know and work with Mike, and I am all the better for having crossed his path.  Rest in Peace my friend.

I mentored Micheal for a short period of time. His big smile, charisma and intellect was just special. I remember fondly running into him on the hallway or cafeteria and he had this amazing ability to just brighten you day. 

Mike was a truly wonderful person. He made everyone feel special and lit up the room with his smile and charisma. My deepest condolences to his beautiful family. You are in my thoughts and prayers. 

I only knew Michael for the past six months or so, but during that time I worked closely with him and his team. I had an immediate kinship with Mike, due to our recent military service and I really liked and respected him. He was obviously a born leader, articulate, smart, and charismatic. Everyone loved him immediately and it felt like he had been a member of our team for years. He will be missed and has left a hole in our hearts here at J.P. Morgan.

I am truly thankful for the short time I had with Mike. My prayers go out to his family.

Mike was such an amazing person. He went out of his way to make people feel welcomed and brought a smile to every room he entered. The light he brought to this world will be missed. Our prayers go out to his family and friends. 

It's hard to think of Mike in the past tense.  In my mind, I see his smile lighting up every room and his infectious presence brings joy to my heart as I recall all the times he visited me in Columbus.  No matter how busy he was, he always made time to stop by and see me.  He never failed to brighten my day and always taught me something new.  He was a breath of fresh air and bright light that will forever shine in heaven.  May his soul rest in peace.  My deepest condolences to his loving family.

Mike is the type of person you do not get the privilege of meeting often. Outside of being such a talented and disciplined person what stands out to me the most about Mike was how much he cared about the people around  him. Even at work, he took it as his responsibility to look out for the well being of the people around him, not just get a job done. Mike was also such an encourager, and when someone like Mike thinks highly of you and takes the time to tell you that, it really means something.

Mike was a gem , a well grounded peoples person, who was always ready to listen.  He has left an incredible positive impact on every person he interacted.  He will be missed ...

One thing that stood out about Mike is that he treated everyone exceptionally well and brought positive energy and life wherever he was. He had exceptional integrity. I send my prayers to all of his family and loved ones.

The opportunity I had to work with Mike on a recent project, was truly a gift. Last December in Texas, I mentioned how much I loved steak, and he arranged for our team to have dinner one night at a great steak place. As we waited for our food to arrive, we all talked about various topics, and as he talked about his faith, family and friends, it was with such glowing adoration. When our food did arrive, he quietly bowed his head to pray, and I remember feeling so thankful to have the chance to work with him. He left such a profound impact on my heart with his genuine warmth and positive energy. My heart breaks for your loss, and you have my sincerest prayers for healing.

Mike went from co-worker to friend instantly.  An incredibly humble and inspirational guy who cares deeply for others; he had a positive impact on me.

Deepest condolences to Mike's family and friends.  May you always find comfort in the wonderful memories you have of him.  He was a great person and will be deeply missed.

I didn't know Mike much. Every time he was in Columbus, he would stop by and we would exchange a few words. But even from those short interactions, I could sense that he was an amazing person. I hope his soul is in a better place now. Please accept my condolences.

Mike was an amazing person. I recall the first time we sat down for a quick chat. 90 minutes later, we were still going strong. We connected on a personal level. He listened with interest even though my experiences paled next to his. He smiled with his whole being. A bright light extinguished far too soon. My sincerest condolences for your loss.

Mike was a joyous soul that made a connection and impact with every interaction. We connected with shared experiences living in Virginia. I recall how happy he was talking about the joy it gave him to live in an area where you could walk to entertainment and enjoy the close friendship of neighbors.
