Helen Esther Lester

Helen started nursing school in her early twenties but stopped when she got married. She returned to school after her youngest child started school and completed the Licensed Vocational Nursing Program at Illinois Central College in 1974. She worked in various positions as a nurse (Floor Nurse, Poison Center Nurse, Utilization Review Nurse) before retiring at age 62. After retiring from nursing, she held several part time jobs until she completely retired in her mid-seventies. She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, traveling, playing cards, bingo, watching the Cowboys and bird watching.

She was predeceased by her spouse, Edward William Lester, daughters Kathleen Ann (Lester) Hofmann and Karol Sue Lester, and still born son (unnamed). Her brothers, Richard (Shorty) Waples, Travis Waples and Carver Waples also predeceased her. She is survived by 4 of her children, Karen (Lester) Stringer, Michael Lester, Kristine (Lester) Watkins and William Lester; 8 grandchildren DeAnna Hofmann, Jessica (Stringer) Ausen, Asa Watkins, Alisha Watkins, Gianna Lester, Katherine Lester, Jake Lester and William Lester, 5 great grandchildren Emilia Hofmann, Kaela Ausen, Nicholas Watkins, Stephanie Watkins and Nicole Watkins and 1 great great grandchild Sunny Ausen.

A private memorial service and celebration of her life has been scheduled for Friday, November 17, 2023 at Stonebriar Funeral Home in Frisco, TX.

Donations to American Heart Association or Paralyzed Veterans of America are requested in lieu of flowers.
