David Cord Anderson, 76, passed from this life on April 14, 2024, in Dallas, Texas. He left a legacy of love. He was born in El Paso, TX February 7th, 1948, to Bess Stanford Peevy (deceased) and Douglas Anderson (deceased).
Mr. Anderson was a member of Greenville Oaks Church of Christ. He served many churches throughout his life and loved God all his days. His influence touched many people and he is warmly remembered for his great love and encouragement.
David was a 1966 graduate of Odessa High School, he held a Bachelor of Arts from Texas Tech University, a Master of Science from Amberton University, and five years of doctoral work at Texas Tech University in leadership, public administration, and presidential studies.
Specialist E-5 David Cord Anderson served in the U.S. Army during the time of the Vietnam War. He was stationed at Fort Ord, California where he served as the Company Clerk for Company A, Third Battalion, Third Brigade. He was then attached to Headquarters of the U.S. Army Europe in Heidelberg, Germany where he was the Coordinator of Army Bands with European embassies and the Department of State. He was responsible for sending the first Army band behind the Iron Curtain. He reported directly to the General of U.S. Army, Europe. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the Sharpshooter Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.
David was a minister, business executive, author and a Professor Emeritus of Leadership and Communication in the School of Business at Lubbock Christian University. David taught over 5,000 students and 296 courses over his twenty-three-year teaching career.
His hobbies included tennis, golf, reading, and travel. He had the special gift of encouragement which he shared freely.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bess Peevy and James Peevy of Odessa Texas, as well as his father Douglas Anderson.
David is survived by the love of his life Jill Deanne Utsinger Anderson. He is also survived by children Julie Anderson Parra and husband Jorge of Savannah, Texas, David Kyle Anderson of Houston, Texas, Wade Whitener and wife Laura of Savannah, Texas, Michelle Orton and husband Chip of Amarillo, Texas. He is also survived by sisters, Linda Townley and husband Ken of Alto, Texas, Karen Cannon and husband John of Houston, Texas. Cynthia Taggart and husband Alastair “Tagg” of Canton, Georgia and Jerri Martin of Dallas, Texas. David had eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Private graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 3, at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery with Dr. John Knox officiating.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Stonebriar Funeral Home on Friday, May 3, at 3:00 PM. Stonebriar is located at 10375 Preston Road in Frisco, Texas.
