Victor John Duerksen

Victor John Duerksen was born on February 28, 1927 to John & Dora Duerksen in Hilsboro, Kansas. He was the oldest of 3 children. He was preceded in death just 2 short months before, His Beloved Wife, Leona Duerksen, his parent, his sister Doris Wall, his middle son, Virgil Duerksen, his oldest grandson, LeRoy Duerksen Jr., a great grandson, Nathan Taylor, & a great granddaughter, Kaylani Duerksen. He leaves behind his children, LeRoy & Mary Duerksen, Gary Duerksen, & Tommy & Laurie Jean. His grandchildren, Tammy & Steve Burrola, Staci & James Shannon, Dennis Duerksen, Casey Sanders, Travis Duerksen, Chyla Duerksen, Cory & Bryan Jean, & LeeAnn Gonzales. His Great Grandchildren, Mitchell & Shawn Taylor, Tristan, Austin, Cheyanne, Cody, & Hailie Shannon, Devan Duerksen, Destiny Burrola, & Aurora Gonzales. Also his sister, Dorothy & Bill Carter. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, & many friends that he considered family.

Victor & Leona celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on July 15th, 2011. His personality was one that someone had to get used to. He was strict & wanted things done right, but he had a heart of gold if anyone was in need. He loved going to McDonald’s when he needed to pick up Grandma’s prescriptions & eating his cheeseburger & drinking his root beer. Grandpa was a dedicated worker no matter who he worked for. He received many awards for driving safely and for driving over one million miles without an accident. Driving was Grandpa’s passion. We learned to appreciate all those miles he drove & the hard work he put into his job by washing his trucks whenever he came home.

He loved his family, even though it was hard for him to show it. After Grandma’s passing he did realize how much his family meant to him. Grandpa would tell us how much he appreciated us taking care of him & Grandma & that Tammy was his “Angel”. He loved his animals, especially his Baby for Life Jake. He always told us that if we have animals we need to treat them like we would want to be treated.

I know that Grandpa is looking down on all of us saying “Why are you making a big fuss over me?” Well, Grandpa this big fuss is because we love you & to say Thank you for instilling the work ethic that is rarely seen in the world today.

We will “Keep on Truckin” until we see you again in Heaven.
