November 11, 1929 – June 10, 2024
Bob was born in Indianola, Iowa on November 11, 1929 to Wade and Leota Stephenson and passed away on June 10, 2024. He was the older brother of James (Jim) Stephenson. The family moved to California in 1943 and they settled in Fresno where Bob graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1948 and was involved in student government, serving as class president his senior year, and was quarterback for the football team and played on the basketball and baseball teams.
He attended Fresno State College and graduated from California State College at Los Angeles with a math major, physics minor and obtained a Secondary Teaching Credential. Besides teaching high school math for several years, Bob was a self-employed computer consultant and ended his career with the Auditor-Controller Office for the County of Monterey before retiring in 1999. In his retirement years, Bob enjoyed ballroom dancing and was a member of the Central California Big Band Dance Society, Fresno Dixieland Society and Fresno Smooth Dancers, often attending classes 3-4 days a week. His family will lovingly remember Bob for his optimism and philosophy of making the most out of each day.
Bob married Marty Hayhurst in 1950. He is survived by their two children, daughter Pam Pallios (Steve) of Modesto, son Kyle Stephenson (Terri) of Fresno, four grandchildren, Andrea Roberts (Brian), Regina Wheeler (Derrick), Tyler Stephenson, Corinne Holland (Justin) and four great grandchildren, Katherine and Alexandra Roberts and Nolan and Mack Holland. He is also survived by cousins, nieces and nephews.
In 1963 Bob married Helen Olds who passed away in 2008.
The family would like to thank both Kingston Bay and Gift of Grace in providing care and compassion to Bob during his later years.
In honoring Bob’s wishes, there will not be a service.
