Marta D. Cantu beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother was born on April 4, 1936 in Mission, Texas. Her body was tired, God said it is enough, and she passed on to her heavenly home in the early morning hours of May 25, 2021.
Our mother was the last surviving “Diaz”, the youngest of nine children born to Martin and Maria De Jesus Diaz from Mission, Texas, in the Rio Grande Valley.
Dad and mom moved their family to California in the early 1960’s and eventually moved back to their hometown of Mission, Texas in 1979 where they remained until dad’s passing, and mom having been taken to California to be lovingly cared for by her daughters and granddaughters, remained here until her passing.
Although Marta or “Marthha”, as our dad would often jokingly call her, had to drop out of school while only in the 3rd grade, she was a woman of many gifts and talents. From that time on she worked hard with her family in the agricultural fields throughout the United States. Later as a married woman, and then living in California, mom kept busy while raising her nine children, working out in the fields at every opportunity she could to help our father provide for their family, also selling Home Interiors, Avon, Tupperware, and Stanley products, and she loved having her yard sales! Mom loved being with people, talking and laughing, and a true businesswoman at heart!
In the late 1980’s our mother accepted Jesus as her Savior and began using her skills, and her love of flowers and plants and sewing, to create flower arrangements and costumes for the children plays in her church, as well as many other creations she loved to bless others with.
Mom was a strong woman that loved her family dearly! She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Teodoro Cantu and in the last nine months was preceded into heaven by grandsons Ruben Romero and Eric Ryan Rodriguez. We rejoice and are comforted in knowing that she has joined them in heaven and that she will be of great help to God in taking care of them!
Surviving to cherish her love and precious memories are her children Norma (Art), Juanita (Homer), Angel (Lisa), Theodore Jr. (Stephanie), Yolanda, Leo (Mary), Abel, Isabel (Pedro), and Melissa (Gustavo). She also leaves behind many grandchildren, many, many and great-grandchildren, and several great-great grandchildren, they were all the joy of her life! She also leaves behind many Diaz nieces and nephews, along with the Cantu sister and brother in-laws, her loteria game-night companions, as well as Cantu nephews and nieces. Mom loved her family and friends dearly and they too, loved her.
