Loydene Mary Maxwell

Loydene, 83, died peacefully in her sleep on June 5, 2016 from cancer. She was born to James and Adaline Hunter in Fresno, CA. Loydene graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1951, then went on to complete a few years at Fresno City College.

Loydene fell in love with Clifford Maxwell whom she had met while with a friend at a local dance hall. She later married Clifford on August 22, 1959. They were married for over 56 years. As Clifford shared he was smitten with Loydene from the very minute he saw her. After they married they enjoyed many trips around the states and to the beach before settling down to raise a family. Together they have three children: Rodney Maxwell (Julie), Patricia Biggerstaff (Doug), and Kim Ellis (Paul Shirk). She was blessed with many grandchildren: Clifford P. Maxwell, Elexis Maxwell, Joshua Portillo, Amanda Portillo, Victoria Biggerstaff, and Nicholas Ellis. She was also blessed with three wonderful great grandchildren.

Loydene worked for many years for Fresno Unified School District in the school cafeteria as a school cook. Her most lasting and most memorable was while she was at Edison Computech. She enjoyed her job, working with wonderful people, and talking with the kids at school. Loydene retired in 1993 from work and her and Clifford enjoyed many trips back East to Kentucky to visit family while retired. Loydene also loved to create crafts. She would hand stitch pillows and baby blankets and sell them at the local craft stores. Loydene loved to play Bingo. She would play as much and as often as she could. Even in her last years she was having Clifford take her to the local 509 for an evening game. She was very good at Bingo and won often, but she wouldn’t share as she said those were her winnings. Loydene was active in the Post Office Auxiliary, Native Daughters of Fresno, and Wawona Parlor.

Loydene lived a full life with her beloved husband, Clifford, by her side whom she adored.

She is loved and missed by her husband, kids, and family.
