

She was born on April 4, 1918 in New York City, attended the Westchester County (NY) public schools, and was a graduate of New Rochelle (NY) High School. During World War II , she met an army intelligence officer,
Erwin Lehmann,and married him but a month later on January 13, 1943.
Following the war, she and Erwin moved to Fresno where he joined his father in the wholesale wood business. They bought a house with the assistance of the GI bill, and had three children. Lil was a girl scout troop leader, a PTA president, and drove her kids in carpools to religious school, swim practice, and dance lessons. She also worked in Erwin's business as the bookkeeper.
In 1950, they joined Fort Washington Golf Club where they played golf and made friends for nearly sixty years. Lil was active in the women's golf group, serving as its President in 1969. In 1998, at age 80, Lil had her first hole-in-one, exemplifying the value of persistence.
Lil was an active supporter and leader of the Town Hall lecture series that brings thought and opinion leaders to Fresno . She was, for many years, a Town Hall board member, and served as its President in 1982-1983
She was devoted to the activities of Temple Beth Israel. A longtime board member, she served as its President from 1976 to 1979. Along with Erwin, she was a key force in helping the congregation relocate from its original Calaveras Street location to its current site near the intersection of Maroa and Herndon.
Lil loved bridge, books, and theatre. With Erwin, she travelled the world , hiked the Sierras, and always delighted in meeting new people.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Erwin, and by their son, Donald. She is survived by her daughter, Jeanne Dillon of Poway; her son, Richard Lehmann of Washington, DC; and her sister, Jean Katzenberg of New Rochelle, NY. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Lindsey Dillon of Berkeley, and her grandson, Michael Dillon of Los Angeles.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 29 at 11:00 am at Temple Beth Israel.
