Leonard Eugene Brock, Jr. was born on June 25th, 1951, to Leonard E Brock, Sr. and Thelma May (Francis) Brock of Fresno, California. After a 5-week battle with various infections in the hospital as well as complications from congestive heart failure and lung failure, he died at French Hospital in SLO, CA with his faithful and loving wife of 53 years at his side on April 24th, 2023.
Len graduated from Hoover High School in 1968 where he built upon his love for all things music.
On June 11th, 1970 he would meet the young and beautiful woman, who would later become his wife, while working at the Starlite Drive In Theatre in Fresno where what is now Fashion Fair Mall. Len and Jan would later marry on August 6th, 1972.
In 1977, they welcomed their first son, Leonard III. In 1979, they had a second son, Matthew, to complete their family.
The brothers both enjoyed growing up in their close-knit and very large extended family. They lived for the big holiday gatherings at Nana & Gaga’s house with so many cousins and a home filled with so much love. They enjoyed fishing with their Dad and family camping trips to Bass lake, Jackass Meadows, and Houseboat trips on the Delta. But nothing garnered more love, passion or commitment in the Brock home than baseball did. The family love of baseball that was passed down to Lenny and Matt began at Cary Little League and flourished into their careers at Hoover High School and many years of travel ball which would lead them to enjoy so many long family weekends throughout multiple states and countless adventures.
After attending Fresno City College and Fresno State, Len became a professional musician where he was fortunate enough to play on stage with some of music’s bigger artists such as, BB King, Fats Domino, Marty Robbins, Merle Haggard, and Fresno’s very own Jack Hannah and the Son’s of the San Juaquin. He also traveled for many years across the US and Canada as the Musical Director for an Elvis impersonator: Alan- The Tribute to Elvis.
Later, after multiple career changes that spanned across restaurant management, construction and paint and repair, Len found a passion for serving others as a Drug and Alcohol Rehab Counselor where he would work until his retirement after 20+ years of service.
Len was charismatic, captivating and had a great sense of humor which made him likable to most. His love of serving in counseling later in life was not to be outshined by his decades of service to Fresno and Central Coast area youth on the baseball field. Len began coaching baseball as a teenager and carried that passion on into the 90’s. His finely tuned musical ear afforded him the ability to pick up his saxophone and play most any score of music that Lenny and Matt could challenge him with. As it turned out he was a natural! His passion for music was strong up to his very last days.
Len grew up in his family as the only son with two sisters that were 20 years his senior. He and his extended family spent lots of time together for their weekly Friday night dinners, during all of the major holidays and even summer vacations, always laughing of course.
Len is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Sr. and Thelma May, his Sisters Katherine Maynard (Warren) and Jo Ann Burchfield (RW), and his nephew Randy Burchfield (Lisa).
He is survived by his loving wife, Jan, his son Leonard III (Lenny), his son Matthew (Matt) his daughter in law Ashley Brock, his daughter Kim Mooney, and 10 grandchildren, Cheyanne (Jordan), Derek, Sophia, Gavin, Evan, Cambria, Averi, Caden, Savannah, and Blayne, Nephews, nieces and countless extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
