Larry H. Garcia was born on Aug. 9, 1935 in Fresno, CA. He was called away by the Lord, with his family at his side, on Dec. 10, 2022 at the age of 87.
Larry married Beverly in 1971 and they had three children. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was always ready to help and had a lively sense of fun. He will especially be missed by his grandchildren on whom he showered attention and was inventive at creating games to delight them.
Larry graduated from Roosevelt High School and CSUF. Credentials include: General Elementary Life and Elementary School Administration. Larry genuinely liked others and was never too busy to give a smile and encouraging word. As a dedicated educator for 49 years, mostly as a Principal for Fresno Unified Schools, he was able to mentor and be a role model for many teachers and students.
Larry enjoyed sports, especially softball which he played on teams until he was 82. In 2011 he was inducted into the Central CA Amateur Softball Hall of Fame. Other hobbies include: gardening, visiting with family and friends, and community and church activities. Larry attended St. Helen’s Church with his wife Beverly since 1976. He was an Army Veteran and served in Korea from 1959 to 1961.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Larry and Elsie Garcia, his brother Frederick and sister, Nikki Hotmer. He is survived by Beverly, his loving wife of 51 years; sons Vincent and wife Katia, Paul and wife, Amber; daughter Christina and husband Roberto Aguilar, and Godson Marco and wife Olivia. Grandchildren include: Katherine, Abigale, Michael, Matthew, Gabrielle, Isabella, Elizabeth, Christian, Evelyn, Neveyah, Ezekiel, Tairah and Kayla. He also leaves behind his sisters, Geri and Patricia, brothers-in-laws, Alex and John, and nieces and nephews, who were close to his heart.
Visitation will be held at Stephens & Bean Funeral Chapel on Dec. 21 from 5p.m. to 7p.m. At St. Helen’s Church on Dec. 22, Rosary will be at 10 a.m. with funeral Mass following at 10:30, and then a reception in the Church Hall. Burial will be held at St. Peter’s Cemetery on Dec. 27, at 11 a.m.
