Joyce was born on June 30, 1932, in Fresno, to Anna and William Gaad and was raised in West Fresno in the area known as German town. She graduated from Edison High School with the Class of 1950. Shortly thereafter, she married Robert Meisner who preceded her in death in 1989.
In 2006, Joyce married George Fickenworth, and they shared a home in Clovis.
Joyce was known and loved by the many people who knew her as a loving mother and family member but also as the smiling face behind the counter at Fashion Lane in Manchester and Sierra Vista Malls; and at Heart's Delight in Old Town Clovis. Joyce was noted for never having a hair out of place and always having an outfit that was perfectly matched to her jewelry.
Joyce was the youngest of five children and was preceded in death by her sisters Elsie Storie and Bernice Salwasser; and her brother, Johnnie Gaad.
She is survived by her husband, George; her son, Steve Meisner and his wife Julie; grandchildren Christopher Meisner and Amanda Meisner Cameron. She is also survived by her step-children Judy and Rich Stewart, and their daughter, Lindsay Detrick. She is survived by one brother, Albert Gaad; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns & Blair Funeral Home on Monday, January 17, 2011, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
A Funeral Service will be held at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns & Blair Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 18, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Clovis Cemetery.
Remembrances may be made to the donors' favorite charity.
