Jack was an alumnus of Roosevelt High School, Fresno City College, and California State University, Fresno. He served in Vietnam as a Sergeant in the United States Army from 1969 to 1970. He taught school at Washington Union High School from 1968 to 1969, and continued from 1971 to 1985, after finishing his tour. In 1983, he established his business, Chaney Cabinet and Furniture Company, which was known throughout the valley for the gifted quality work that Jack excelled in.
Jack was an active member of St. Helen's Catholic Church where he was a Eucharistic Minister and president of the school board. He was grand knight in the Knights of Columbus, and a member of the Easton Lions Club. Jack was very active as a board member and coach in the Sunnyside Lone Star Little League for 25 years. He loved to golf and was a member of the Sunnyside Country Club.
He will be remembered as a lover of history, the Cleveland Indians, the University of Oklahoma Sooners, jazz musicians, Django Reinhardt, and Stephane Grappeli and his three English Springer Spaniels.
The wish to thank Dr. Gupta and the staff at C-Care, St. Agnes, and Horizon Health Care for their loving care during this short time with Jack.
He was the only son of Edith and Harold Chaney, who preceded him in death.
Jack is survived by his loving wife, Olivia, of 44 years. He leaves behind his four sons, Chad and his wife Michelle, Clayton and his wife Jennifer, Cameron "Beau", and Clark. He was adored by his granddaughters, Madison, Mackenzie, Kylie, Mallory, and Skylar. He leaves a sister-in-law, Kathleen Rebella and her husband Joe; brother-in-law, Jack Oberti and his wife Chris; loving nieces and nephews, Andrea and Frank Salvio, Michael and Yvette Rebella, Randy Rebella, Anthony and Melissa Oberti, Vincent and Jenna Oberti; many dear cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns & Blair Funeral Home on Thursday, January 11, 2018, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
A Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at St. Helen's Catholic Church on Friday, January 12, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. with the Mass of Christian Burial following at 11:00 a.m.
