Due to Executive Order 9066, at the age of 8 she and her family were sent to an assembly center in Santa Anita, CA. A short time later, the family was then sent to a relocation camp in Poston, Arizona. After being released, the family relocated to the Selma/Reedley, CA area. After graduating from Reedley High School, Irene attended 4 C’s Business College. She worked as a receptionist and bookkeeper. She met her future husband, Ted Takahashi at a Young Buddhist Association event. They were married on May 24, 1958. She was a bookkeeper for Takahashi Farms for over 55 years.
She was preceded in death by Ted, her husband of 50 years; her parents Jintaro and Tokino Kubo; and her sisters, Sue Omachi and her husband Fred, Yoshiko Kihara and her husband Shuzo, and Aiko Kubo and her brother, Kaizo Kubo.
She is survived by her children, Paige Yebisu and her husband Ko; her sons Miles Takahashi, Byron Takahashi, and Brandt Takahashi; grandchildren Michael, Scott and Jackson Yebisu; sister-in-law Sally Matsumoto; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the Fresno Family Dharma Center at 2690 E. Alluvial, on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 1:00 p.m.
