Herb was born April 16, 1941 in St. Louis, Missouri to Herbert M. Johnson Jr. and Lucille Thorne Johnson. Herb grew up in Chicago, eventually moving to California where he graduated from Pleasant Hill High School in 1959. He went on to attend San Jose State and later graduated from Fresno State in 1964 with a degree in Business Administration. Herb had a successful career in sales and marketing with General Motors throughout the mid-west and California, where he was recognized as a Top Sales Manager.
While at Fresno State, Herb joined the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and remained an active member for over 50 years. He also held memberships with Orange County Ski Club, Fresno Cycling Club, and Belmont Country Club. An avid lover of all things sports, Herb especially enjoyed cycling, beach volleyball, snow- and water-skiing, and golf. He was a fabulous chef, cultivated an extensive wine collection, and had a passion for music, travel, and photography.
He is survived by his former wife Saundra Arnold Jordan and their children, Michelle Johnson Serrato and Craig Johnson, four grandchildren, and brother Scot Johnson. Herb is preceded in death by his mother and father, stepmother Dorothy Johnson, and brother Robert Johnson.
Herb will be cremated and his ashes buried alongside other members of his family in a private service. His loyalty, light-hearted spirit, and zest for life will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
