Gabriel was born to Jesus and Paula Terronez in Cameron, Texas on March 24, 1940. He attended Corcoran High School where he was an outstanding athlete earning championships in wrestling and track. He joined the Marine Corp in 1957 where his natural gifts for boxing propelled him to an Inter-Service Boxing championship, the 1960 Olympic Trials and later a professional fighting career where he earned a ranking of 4th in the world welterweight division.
After attending Fresno City College and graduating from Fresno State, he worked as a community relations consultant for then - Governor Ronald Reagan. In 1992, Gabe retired from the University of California where he worked with migrant and at-risk adolescents as a youth development specialist.
The family wants to give special thanks to the sisters and staff of the Nazareth House for their unwavering devotion and compassion.
His great spirit will be truly be missed.
He was married to the love of his life, Elizabeth Huerta Terronez, for 25 years, who preceded him in death in 1992.
He is survived by his five children Stephanie, Dante, Desiree, Damien and Nicole; his two grandchildren, Nicholas and Mia Elizabeth; and siblings, Cecil, Lupe and Janie.
