Francisco was born on April 10, 1941, in Elizondo, Spain. At the age of 23, he immigrated to the United States, where he worked as a sheepherder in Wyoming, Montana, Colorado, and finally on a sheep ranch in Kerman, California.
Francisco took great pride in a good day’s work, holding various jobs prior to working as a gardener for Roy Harris. The two became good friends and eventually business partners when they founded H&E Nursery. After running a successful business for 34 years, they decided to retire and enjoy life.
He also had a passion for fishing and hunting, spending many weekends at the Duck Club with his faithful canine companion.
Francisco was preceded in death by his first wife, Jeanne. He is survived by his wife, Susan; two daughters Elena Echaide and Monica Castillo; son-in-law, Lyle Castillo; grandson, Mitchell Castillo; and stepdaughter, Jennifer Newman.
A Recitation of the Holy Rosary Service for Francisco will be held on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 from 9:30 - 10:00 AM at Holy Spirit, 355 E Champlain Dr, Fresno, CA 93730, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
