Loving husband, dad, grandfather, and friend was surrounded by his loved ones as he left us to be with God on Sunday, September 1, 2013.
Gene was born in St. Louis, Missouri on June 10, 1932. When he was about six years old he and his parents Arthur and Lucille Krebs moved to Marissa, Illinois. He lived there until he served in the United States Navy in August, 1950 to June, 1954 during the Korean War, Landing on Inchon, and in Vietnam when the French occupied it. He proudly served on the USS Windham Bay.
He worked for NASA on Apollo's 1 through 11 and the Gemini Project. He had his own radio show and started his own church in Illinois. He went to Illinois State University of Carbondale and achieved a Bachelor's, Master's and Ph.D in the area of Educational Psychology in the 1970's.
He was hired at California State University of Fresno and he was the first male Chairman of the Department of Family Studies and Home Economics (the name has since changed). He retired from teaching in December, 2000.
He was admired by all for his love of life. He loved to sing, dance and tell stories about his life. Gene will be truly missed by all who knew him.
He was predeceased by his son, Michael Lee Krebs in 1980; his mother, Lucille Krebs in 2003; and his father, Arthur in 2005.
Visitation will be held at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns & Blair Funeral Home on Friday, September 13, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. followed by the Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m.
A Celebration of His Life will be held at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns & Blair Funeral Home on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery.
