Ellery Kirkbride

Ellery was born on March 14, 1924, in Indianapolis, In., to Earl Allison Kirkbride of In. and Susie Skirvin of Ky. Safe and secure in the arms of God, Ellery passed through the gates of heaven on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at The Adventist Hospital in Hanford, Ca. at the age of 89.

Like so many others of the Greatest Generation, Ellery answered the call to duty at the outbreak of WWII, and began a military career that spanned more than four decades of active duty and reserve military service. His military career included service in the United States Navy, the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves, and the U.S. Army. Ellery retired from the U.S. Army with the rank of Major and was awarded numerous citations and medals, including the Bronze Star for heroism.

Ellery's transition from military to civilian life was just as impressive. Deciding on a career in education, he completed his Bachelors of Arts Degree and teaching credential at California State University, Fresno, followed by his Masters Degree in Psychology from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. The solider turned educator. He taught English and Drama at Bullard High School in Fresno, Ca. For many years. He concluded his professional career as a Guidance Counselor and Child Psychologist in the Fresno Unified School District.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Bertha Mae Baker; and his son, Michael Ellery Kirkbride.

Ellery is survived by Jean Ellen Carollo Kirkbride, his wife of Lemoore, Ca. Ellery and Jean spent more than 16 years of love and happiness together. Their faith, love and RV travels will forever be Jean's lasting memory of her beloved husband; Ellery is also survived by his brother, Gerald Kirkbride of Fl.; his daughters, Loretta Bradley of Hemet, Ca., and Kristi Jarvis of Fresno, Ca.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Family and friends will gather on Saturday, March 23, 2013, to remember the life and legacy of Ellery Kirkbride, starting with Visitation at Stephens & Bean Chapel from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m.

A Funeral Service, honoring Ellery including a service by the Fraternity of Free and Accepted Masons will be held at Stephens & Bean Chapel on Saturday, March 23, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. A Military Graveside Service saluting the WWII and Korean Conflict Veteran, will follow at Belmont Memorial Park.
