Edwin, was born in Chicago, Illinois on August 18, 1926, to Samuel and Jessie Silverstrom.
While living in Chicago, Ed attended the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. He enlisted with the Armed Forces in 1944 during World War II. Following the war, Ed moved to Los Angeles to attend the University of California, Los Angeles where he graduated with a business degree in 1949. He was a controller for various companies throughout the Central Valley including Security Seed Company, Rodder's Department Stores, and Ventura TV. He and his wife, Joanne, opened Greenhouse Annie's Plant Stores in 1973, and enjoyed 23 years of local success.
An accomplished artist, Ed exhibited and won various awards at Fresno State University, The Fresno County Fair, and the Madera Art Council. He had one man exhibits at Fresno City Hall, Arte Americas, and the Tulare Historical Museum.
Ed is survived by Joanne Teixeira Silverstrom, his wife of 40 years; his sister, Eleanor Sternberg of Newport Beach, Ca.; daughter, Jan and her husband, Eric Elfman of Los Angeles, Ca.; son, Stace Silverstrom and his wife Susan of Fresno, Ca.; daughter, Cindy Hutchins of Fresno, Ca., and son, Blake Silverstrom and his wife Kimberly of Coral Springs, Fl.; nine grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
A Graveside Service will be held at Beth Israel Cemetery on Thursday, February 21, 2013, at 1:00 pm.
